New Exhaust Installed

Welp...I finally got some time to have the my exhaust installed. Here's what we installed:

- 2.5" from the join underneath the car. I did not see the point in cutting it up to the cat...plus...there was already a clean break.

- 2.5" custom x-pipe

- two dynomax 2.5" ultra-flow mufflers (offset / center)

- two stainless dual tips (I don't recall the brand but...they look just like the Magnaflow)

Everything above was ~$480...installed.

The sound is simply amazing...like the LS should. The tips fill the entire rear valence on the LSE...much moreso than the puney stock tips that came on the 02s. There seems to be a definite gain in power all across the RPM range. Obviously...it really comes alive at WOT.

I'll try and shoot a video of it later today and post it up so everyone can get an idea of the sound and looks.

Sounds like you got a decent deal. I'm gonna try and get my LS in today and have a little more work done on the exhaust too.

2002 Lincoln LSE Exhaust

The revs were only to about 2k so...you can imagine that it gets a bit louder as the rpms go up. Been driving it pretty much since it was installed and have noticed little to no drone. The little I've noticed is in D5 and at low mph. The easy solution is to pull it back into D4 and it's fine. With the windows up and A/C on it is barely noticeable...particularly at highway speeds. I've asked my wife to let me know if it gets worse...which it might when those mufflers break in.

There's noting I don't like about this setup. At WOT it pops a little but...hey...that's cool with me. It still has nothing on my Camaro SS with longtubes and a Dynomax bullet muffler.

i removed my resonators when i was gettign brake work done. now when i accelerate theres this ticking sound, it sounds kinda jankady why is it making this noise. when they removed the resonators they cut the factory h pipe out. should they have kept the h pipe in or do i need an x pipe somewhere in the middle. it sounds sick i cant wait till my exhaust is completly done. hopefull itll sound like urs

If the ticking appeared after the resonators were removed...I'd bet it's an exhaust leak on one of the welds.

As for the h-pipe...is it a true h? I tried to peek up into mine where we cut it off but...I just can't tell. I thought that tube was only welded in there for additional support.
 
i think its to make sure each exhaust is getting the same amout flowing through. i think... im gonna take it back to them this week the brakes are still squeeking. they want me to buy new studs and nuts

That is what my UltraFlows did on my Mustang. They also popped when I let off the gas, but that ended up being the air pump for smog.

Sounds good. Now you need to get someone to video tape when you are flyin' down the road. :)
 
the v8 snaps, crackles and pops at just 2kRPM????? Hmm.. are there any other alternative mufflers to use that would throttle that? It must really sound like a low whine at a high rpm down the road in 5th?

I've got the same motor and looking to do exhaust but i dont want a lot of snapping and popping at all.

If it wouldn't be to much problem could you film again with a 3000 rpm burst of the gas.
I Love the rumble exactly what I am looking for.

Also could I get an exact parts list so I know what to slap down at my muffler man?

Yes Sir, no ticking, clicking or popping here. Also $119.00 each with tips pre welded.

PERFECT! THATS EXACTLY THE SOUND I WANT!!!!!!!!!!! -- These will also sound good on the Lincoln LS V8 and fit okay?? The demo said for the MARK VIII.. hopefully not only for just the mark viii !!!

i will absolutely have these ordered within a day with my piping if they'll sound just as good.. obviously a tad toned down due to HP differences, but thats the crisp roar i need!!

Thats our XpansionX series of SS mufflers along with our twin xx pipe torque chamber. Our mufflers were specifically developed for the modular powerplants.
 
Sorry for the late edit in thread you didnt see when you responded.. Do these work well for the LS too? I see it said Mark VIII, do they come in the LS sizes and do you have any clips or first hand hearing on how the V8 LS sounds with them, with a custom pipes too?

I read in another thread you have that they do work on both model LS's, GREAT!!! -- Does this sytem require really anything besides the mufflers? I will eventually run a cleaner and larger piping than what is stock, but what can be expected with these bolted on the back until the new pipes are in? Does it require an h/x pipe to be installed to get any better performance/sound?

Im lookin to get the same growl that those marks get.

Yes we have always had this set up for all the LS models. I do not have any soundclips of them on an actual LS but they do sound EXACTLY the same since the configuration and placement is the same. Ill try to get a clip next week when one of our LS' comes in.

You will need our twin xx pipe torque chamber then our XpansionX II mufflers. You can have it piped in locally, we do supply a reference picture as well.

If you can, do me a break down with pricing in a priv msg or here , either is great, Im interested in two of the mufflers, and the X pipe chamber. Im in south east MI for shipping.

Should there be new cats installed too? or is it "okay" to leave the stock piping? Im on a bit of a budget for now and if i can get away with the mufflers and X pipe i will, but will that comprise any sound differences (by a lot?) Later i'll re-run new stainless under neath...

Thanks for answering all the questions but as soon as i heard that MARK i knew exactly what i needed =) thats how a mean LS should sound!

Well...I've been trying to figure out where around here I can do that. I might have a location mapped out but...it'll have to wait until Saturday (less traffic). The location I am thinking of should allow me to do some drive by's at various speeds and RPMs. I also plan on getting some video of inside the car (windows up and down...WOT and at interstate speed).

The parts list is at the top of this post. If you order the mufflers now, Dynomax is offering $50 rebate for each Ultra-flo welded ($75 rebate for stainless). I ordered mine through Summit Racing and got them in 2 days. With the rebate, the mufflers were $19.98 each (after rebate of course)...free shipping.

Yup...that's exactly what it does...most mufflers that have the same construction (straight through free flowing)...will do this. The Magnaflows will likely do the same thing. Dunno for sure...never heard the Magnaflows. However, if you wanted the exact same setup as the Magnaflow, just order two Dynomax bullet race mufflers and install them under the car before the rear axle. I dunno what that will do but...I'm sure it would quite it down quite a bit.

It doesn't whine anywhere in the RPM range. It does get louder and pop more. These mufflers are as free flowing as you are going to find. I looked at a flow rate comparison of mufflers and the Dynomax outflows pretty much any muffler. Probably like the Magnaflows. I think they flow about triple the rate of Flowmaster.

I'll try and post some of the same revs in my Camaro...not even close to the same comparison...I know...but...I'll try and do it just for fun.

I'm never above changing ehxaust systems...did it twice on my SS before settling on the bullet in the I-pipe. Started with a cutout (sounded like crap) then went to a bullet in the I with the stock manifolds and finally, with the longtubes.

I'd like to hear this system on an LS...because I'd be extremely surprised if it doesn't have some pop to it because it's the a similar construction to the Magnaflows and the Dynomax Ultra-flos. I see that the LS system in the pic has some sort of resonator after the x-pipe. If there's no pop, it's probably because of these resonators. It doesn't look like the Mark system has these resonators.

Cool exhaust system.

Pete02, did you eveer get a video or clip of a drive-by. I want to know how it sounds around 4000-5000 rpms.
