New guy, Questions Questions Questions.

Hi all. I just picked up a 98 LSC today. High Miles, but I think I did ok on price. It does have a couple of issues which I am looking for advice on, so here goes.

1. Temp gauge works for about 15 seconds, then goes dead and the MFD shows the following "Engine Temp Data Err" I'm thinking Sending unit or sensor here? Would that be a right guess?

2. Has Oil leak from around the pan gasket. I'm guessing I just need to drop the pan and replace the gasket? Or is this something more serious? I read about pan rusting, so I am just wanting to cover my bases.

3. On the Passengers side, lower radiator mount, there is some coolant, but it doesn't appear to be a "leak" just sort of clinging to that mount. I was told this is where the drain petcock is and it could just be from a recent flush. Does this sound right or should I be thinking new radiator?

4. Passengers Power seat.... Only goes up and down. No front to back, and the seat back doest change position either. Any thoughts on this?

5. It needs front brakes, already found the Tech Article on replacing pads and rotors!!


6. It runs like a striped arse ape! Handles great, and looks pretty much new inside and out. Which is amazing for a car with.... 170k on it. Everything seems to work other than the temp gauge. JBL audio all works, Moon roof works, AC is cold as, well Hell isnt cold, but you get the idea. Starts quick and smooth, idles great, shifts and drives slick.

Anyway, Lovin it so far.

1.i would try checking the connections on the sending unit
2.only way to check is to see go under there see if any bolts are loose if not time to change the gasket
3.clean the fluid away run the car and see if it leaks
4.no clue sorry(maybe need new motor)
5.the brakes arent hard to do i did them in my 95 think there the same took me like an hour for both sides if you have the rite tools

i no i didnt help that much but keep us informed of everything

One Question.. Where is the sending unit? I have no access to a manual, nor do I have the original owners packets either.

hey lou not to shore where it is check where the thermostat is that is where they are usualy located just a hunch

Thanks found it. It was not plugged in securely, was making intermitant contact. Plugged it in, no more err code!!
