Hi,

Great forum and I am impressed with the knowledge here. So, I have a question: I just inherited a garage kept 97 with only 40K on it. Step dad bought it with all the bells and whistles, including the $1500 moon roof, spiral wheels, etc.
If I want to spend $1000 to get this thing to sound better and get me from 0-60 faster than it does now (I live in CA, and going faster will get me a badass ticket and the roads are lousy anyway up here), I would love for someone to give me a list of parts that mostly I can install. I am not a gear head, and don't mind spending a few bucks for help. I will never run this thing at the strip. I want it to sound great, and get more hp, but am not looking for lower quarter mile et's. Thanks!

For the most part, you can do a custom exhaust to have your car sound better, and perform better. You can purchase a system from Geno at LMS (vendor on the site....Lincoln MotorSport) or you can part it out yourself. It will cost anywhere from $700 on up for a cat back exhaust system. It all depends on where/what you purchase, and what a local shop will charge you to install it.

You can also do a chip, it will not really make the car sound any better, but you will get better performance from it. There are several compaines out there that sell chips for the Mark VIII. Geno (LMS), SCT (Superchips Custom Tuning), Regular Superchips, and a few others. Make sure that you do not plan on further upgrades on your car, or you will have to send the chip back for reburns.

Also, you can put a shift kit in your tranny. You can purchase one from Baumann Engineering (the BEST shift kit out there). If you purchase a shift kit, and you decide on a performance chip, make sure that the company you get the chip from knows that you either have, or plan on putting in a shift kit, and what shift kit it is.....that way they can customize it to your car.

Hope this helps a bit.

Thanks for the help and welcome.

It might take me a while to get used to using the board, but I greatly appreciate the feedback and the good nature of all of the threads I have read.
I see I have some research to do, but, in at the end of the day, I have a Mark that looks like it just came off the showroom floor. That is something to be happy with, with or without the mods.

But the mods will come.

And to 1wykdmk8, I greatly appreciate the time you put into your response. Very kind of you. I will start looking at the companies, and just up the budget a grand and see what comes out!
