So ordering some shiznit off Amazon Prime, I needed a couple bucks more to get over the $25 minimum. I got these two key fobs that have sold like 5k with 4.5 star reviews $9.95. What could be bad at that price? Anyway, got em on saturday, and yes they are good quality, but low and behold all the ford/lincoln cars have easy to follow instructions to program.

Except ours of course. '2000 - 2006 Lincoln Ls Dealer program only' So whats the scoop, please dont tell me that they have to go and program the PCM for the damn fobs!

Not completely accurate.
2000-2002 - remote is dealer program only.
2003-2006 - remote is user programmable. (Procedure is in owner's manual.)

lol thats insane. oh well, thats the good thing about amazon, easy returns. if the dealer will do it no charge for me, i will keep them, but if not....

I assume someone has tried the gen 2 method on a gen 1? If not I could try it maybe, unless you think it would fubar things joe.

would need a post of the procedure then

Yes, it's been tried and it doesn't work. (It should do no harm if you want to try it.)
You can find the owner's manuals for gen I and gen II here: http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/tech/

I think that most dealers will charge the full minimum charge (probably $100 now). The exception might be if you have a dealer that you regularly use for oil changes and such. They might do it for no extra charge the next time you are in for something.

i think some (equipped) lock smiths will too, just need to call around (sometimes cheaper)

When I had my fob 'wear out' a couple of years ago, I dug in my box of used fobs and started swapping parts around. If you look around the 'net you can find instructions for renewing the conducting 'paint' that wears out. I simply replaced the 'painted' part. It's still working fine this several years later.

You can also ask about buying/programming an OEM key or fob from them, then ask if you can throw in your other fobs. Worst case, they say "no"

Anytime the dealer programs in a remote, they have to program all of them (that you have and want to work) at the same time. The start of the procedure erases the car's memory of the previous remotes.

Actually Cammerfe thats not a bad idea. I will look and see if the guts can be swapped. Half the reason I got these anyhow was the pain involved in looking for and then paying for batteries. 2 batteries probably close to 10 bucks anyhow.
