Hello all -

I bought a 2004 Lincoln LS (V8 Ultimate) a month ago, and I was seriously bumming when I thought there was no forum for that car. So like I say, I'm glad I found this one!

Among MANY other cars, I have recently owned 2 first gen Mark VIII's, a 95 Cadi STS, and MOST recently a 99 Corvette. I loved the Vette, but seriously missed the luxury of the Lincolns and Cadi's. So here I am.

I LIKE, not love, LIKE the car so far. My biggest complaint is this...

What is with that $#%$ delay and hesitation when I try to accelerate quickly? Don't get me wrong, the car runs fine, it's just that nearly full second delay... then woosh! There we go! The tranny take soooo long to down shift.

Can this be tuned out?

Also, for those who have installed either a whole Intake Kit, or just a KN filter... noticable? Worth the money?

Anyway, I'm seriously trying to get into this car, and I know I'll learn plenty from this forum.
 
SCT Xcalibrator 3 will fix that problem for you. Get it from Rob at KBX Performance (username ILLS on this site). Shoot him a pm to discuss prices.
 
programmer. You'll need a tuner to write the programs for you. that's where ILLS comes in handy. :D
 
Like pektel said. There is no "chip" for these cars, so don't bother looking at them on eBay - they're junk.
 
not sure about 98%. A lot of it is the design/hydraulics in the tranny. It's NOT a sports car, and its not a sport transmission, despite the SST.
 
The throttle by wire has a huge effect on how the car reacts to someone hitting the gas pedal. I wish I could retro-fit a standard throttle cable into mine.

Buy either the KKM intake or the K&N for the Ford Thunderbird. I have KKM, works pretty well, just no heat-shield. People were supposed to make one but I have yet to see any.

And the fact they use the same thing in the Mustang?
Hydraulics don't have as much to do with it on newer transmissions. Its all electronic.
Most of the delay is programmed in the control module. That can be fixed by getting the right tune.
 
Yup. $389 plus shipping for the programmer. I'll have to file that under "nice to have someday".

But thanks to everyone for their input.
 
I made my own CAI by cutting down the stock airbox and using a universal $40.00 cone filter available from Autozone, Advance Auto Parts or Pep Boys.
There's a pic of it in my gallery.
Don't forget to remove the MAF before cutting if you make your own.
The SCT tune as well as totally getting rid of the lag will give you about 15 hp.
The CAI is good for 5-8 hp and gives the car a much more pleasing muscle car tone than the stock quietness.
This together puts the car a little over 300 hp which is about all you can do to our 2nd gens.
It's enough for me to really love driving this V8 sedan.
Do these 2 mods and you're set.
