Good Evening

I am a new LS owner as of 7000 miles ago, I recently left teh world of BMW and bought a Lincoln LS, after having read all the great reviews about them. I have 2 questions taht probably seem stupid.

I have noticed that when I accelerate with a purpose, the engine seems to knock, at first I thought it was because when gas was 3.00 a gallon, I used some 89 octance, but that was about 700 miles ago, It dosen't knock at 50 miles an hour, or when it idles... Suggestions

Secondly, I had the oil changed about 1500 miels ago, for the first time and the mechanic said it took 6 quarts.. I have checked it a couple of times and it is right on or a smidge over the max mark.... This is the first vehicle I have ever owned that has used 6 quarts.. Is this correct??

Thanks for your assistance

The LS requires 91+ octane, and yes if you have a v8 it takes in 6 quarts, I have the v6 and it takes 7 quarts... wierd huh?...... for the knocking just try some injector cleaner see if that helps..

If it takes 6 quarts of oil, you have a pre-'03 V8 (the '03 and newer LS V8s take 6.5 quarts--the increase is due to the addition of VVT in '03). 91 (or greater) octane is REQUIRED in the 3.9l V8, per FoMoCo.

From the Owner's Manual:
Do not be concerned if your engine sometimes knocks lightly. However, if
it knocks heavily under most driving conditions while you are using fuel
with the recommended octane rating, see your dealer or a qualified
service technician to prevent any engine damage.

If you don't have an Owner's Manual, you can find a PDF'd copy of it in the Tech Section, which is pinned to the top of the LS forum.
