I just bought a new 06 LS Ultimate! It's black/black with Chrome wheels. (In Canada, there are two models: Sport and Ultimate. Ultimate includes literally every available option except chrome wheels and the Nav system). I pick it up on Saturday. I will try to take some pics as soon as I can. At first I didn't like the LSE appearance (which all 06 model have), but in black I think it looks great. For now, here is a pic from the dealer's ad.

p.s. Anyone in the Ottawa (Canada) area interested in a pristine '02 LS? :)

Oh yeah baby, the "Deep Cherry" color is sweet. Its almost like black with a metallic red sheen to it. Super sexy. I would have configured the car that way if I was ordering it. But since they turned off the production line back in April :( , that just wasn't possible. I was happy enough to find blk/blk.

Why did you not trade in your 02 LS? Not get enough out of it? Resale values have fallen and that really sucks.

Congrats on your new purchase. That is a sharp looking LS!

Exactly. I know that resale values have fallen, but the dealer was offering me an offensively low amount.

Thats it, was not sure of the real color name.

Picked up the car on Saturday. It's a beaty! I love (almost) everything about it. At first I thought I wouldn't like the silver-color dash accents, but in combination with the real woodgrain and black interior, it is sexy as well as elegant. Now the 02 LS interior looks a little plain to me.

I don't like the feel of the throttle at any speed. The 02 just seems so much more responsive to the driver than this one, which is of course, drive-by-wire. Maybe it is simply different, and I need to get used to it. I don't like how it will not downshift when accelerating, unless you punch it far enough to cause a 5 - 3 downshift. I like the exhause note better on the 06. It growls. I can't comment on power; the car is new and still being broken in, so I am intentionally not asking much of the engine yet.

There are also little things I've noticed. In Canada, all cars have daytime driving lights. On the 02, the daytime driving lights would turn off if the shifter was put into N. With this one, they remain on. I like that because I often shift into N if stopped at a long red light (engine idles more easily, burning less fuel). I also like that the headlights are activated automatically when the wipers are turned on. That makes a lot of sense and all cars should do it, IMHO. I really miss the rain-sensing wipers though. I have driven over 600 km (400 mi) since picking up the car, 100% of it in rain. I didn't like having to fiddle with the controls all the time. Shame on Lincoln for discontinuing this great luxury feature.

I had a remote start installed by the dealer, and I am sure that I will really appreciate having it when the cold weather comes around again. For now it is just another toy.

Does anyone know, which years have the high-mounted LED brakelight? Only the 06? I have never noticed it before on any LS's on the road, and I tend to notice things.

Like I said, it has been raining non-stop here all weekend, so no pics yet.

Congrats on the new ride! You'll love it. IMHO, the 06 LS is the best of the best.

The throttle issues will clear up and become more responsive as you drive it. The control computers for the throttle and idle trim have to acclimatize to your driving style. Mine was the same way, and after about 500 miles, the response was instantaneous.

On the high mount brake light, LED high mounted brake lights started in 2003.

Thanks, ToddG. So it isn't so much that I need to get used to the car, it is that the car needs to get used to me. That's fine too. Of course I have noticed the stiff shifts and I knew that they would clear up; I should have assumed that the throttle would need a learning curve too.

I too had to take some time adjusting from my '02 LS to a '05 Ultimate. I guess you have the same model i do, the bigger headrests are an obstacle to look around. The view out the back window is really cramped with the third brake light taking up space on top, then the two headrests in back. The side mirrors are smaller on the newer LS's. I also didnt really like the all black interior and silver radio trim, still dont care all that much for it. Same issue with the throttle, its slowly getting better but still not the same as the old LS. The bigger armrest console is a blessing and the sliding armrest is pretty cool. I have had mine for about a month now and am pretty well adjusted to the differences.

We've had our '04 Ultimate about a month now and I agree on the rear headrests. My wife drives the car during the week and whenever I drive it those headrests kind of sneak up on me when checking my blind spot!

As for throttle response, I have not found that it really gets any better. The drive-by-wire is just not as responsive as a traditional throttle cable. Most noticable just off-idle. Kind of annoying, but if you drive it every day I'm sure you'll get used to it.

I've noticed the slow throttle response with my '06 Sport. Then someone mentioned the the Xcal will get rid of that problem. And I'm just love the color of my LS that I haven't even noticed the 3rd break light. Go fig... This car is awesome so congrats on the new ride. Black is super clean.

As promised, some pics I took today.

I finally got around to cleaning 'er up after all the rain make a mess of the paint. I used no wax or treatment, just a good old hand wash with a Mr. Clean AutoDry kit and air-dry.

I have some EagleOne Nanowax which I will use to try to remove some of the swirlies that the dealer put on the paint while washing or drying it.

I plan to install some 18's for summer driving and put winter tires on the factory chrome rims. I also plan to do some light to moderate tinting all around. But it looks not bad as is, if you ask me.

Looks nice, if you decide to get rid of them wheels I'd be interested if not too pricey even though they remind me of the 16" wheels that came on 3rd gen Cavaliers(just the LS are chrome) and bigger and some of the new Cobalts. Of course they are slightly different and I am not putting them down.

Not a chance. I love the factory wheels on the '06. I think they are the best looking wheels that Lincoln has ever put on the LS, and only '06 owners have them, so it's kind of an exclusive club ;)

Bah! Just another vairation on the same old 5 spoke wheel. The chrome 8 spoke wheels on the '04 Ultimate are MUCH better looking. :)

Personally I like the 11 spoke chrome better. The 8 spoke have a strange "divot" in the flat spoke near the tire that I am not fond of. But sadly I have neither, only the 16" 7 spoke alloy. Been thinking of putting 18's on it but still weighing the pros and cons.
I do love the LSE appearance of the 06 but do not like the wheels. Reminds me of some cavalier wheels I once saw.

Exclusive? Not really when I almost bought them at the dealer.

Welcome to August 2005! :W

In all seriousness, the LS and "exclusive" should never be used in the same sentence.
