I recently purchased a 2003 Lincoln LS V6 with around 98,000 miles. I'm seeking any additional information for the problems listed below and insight for future repairs. Thanks in advance.

Current issues include:

Trouble codes: P0022, P0301, P0316

Rough start when cold.

Suspected water pump leak/loss of hot air from heater (only blows cold).

Hard shift/jerk when accelerating from a stop, followed by momentary power loss.

Driver side suspension clunk when driving over uneven roads and potholes.

Steering wheel rubbing noise when moving the wheel, especially at lower speeds.

That's all for now I believe, I'm looking to give this car some love, so all pointers are appreciated!

Ohh Boy.

Before anyone gets blunt with you,,, I'll advise you that you need to start a few different threads.

Issue 1 - Trouble codes: P0022, P0301, P0316 Rough start when cold. Probaly all related. Especially P0301 and P0316. Most likely caused by coil failure on cylinder #1... so you may as well be ready to pony up $400 for coils and plugs. P022 is most likely a cam sensor,,, and could be related to the other 2 codes... because the computer goes off of cylinder #1. Worse case is that your timing chains are shot, (simple version). Too many variables without more information.

issue 2 - start another separate thread. many will tell you to use the search on this site. I'll say to look up cooling system problems. Most likely not just water pump... but another $800+ in other cooling system parts.

issue 3 - start another separate thread... check vehicle for codes and post those. Could be transmission issues or problems with electronics monitoring driveline.

Isssue 4 - start another separate thread. LS has many suspension issues. You need to try and locate where the clunk is coming form. Could be many things.

Issue 5 - satart another separate thread. Steering wheel rubbing could be nothing,,, if it is actually coming from steering wheel... however if rubbing sound is coming from under vehicle could be suspension related. You need to be more specific.

Trust me... with a couple of these issues,,, you are going to be giving your LS... A LOTTA LOVE!!! Meaning $$$$$$

P0022 could the the bank 2 (driver's side) cam sensor, or the driver's side VCT solenoid, bad/wrong oil, or a few other things.

P0301, P0316 - Almost certainly the typical marginal COP (Coil-On-Plug) problem. All six coils and six spark plugs should be replaced. Use OEM coils only. This might also be causing your P0022, so do this first.

Cooling system - replace all the plastic parts (not as expensive as for the V8), check the radiator (passenger tank, at the top, in the front), check the DCCV and make sure it isn't clogged. Check to see if someone plugged off the heater hoses instead of replacing a defective DCCV.

Jerk - Replace the coils and plugs before going after this one. It might just be the plugs. If not, the transmission solenoid assembly and the PCM are suspects.

Clunk - Check all of the suspension, but suspect the sway bar end-links first.

Steering wheel rubbing noise - Most common is issue with the fluid/rack. There is an additive to the fluid that may help (your dealer should know about it), if it's too late, you may need a new rack. If the steering is stiff too, it could be the U-joints on the intermediate shaft.

Everyone of these issues has been discussed in detail in several threads on here. Use Google site search to find the threads...
