A little background on myself. This LS is the first FoMoCo product I've owned since 1995. The only other one I've had is a 1993 Cougar, which I had to sell to get my debt ratio down to buy a house. I miss the Cougar, and was actually looking for a 1994-1997 model when this LS appeared. I'm primarily a GM man, and only bought the LS due to an auto accident my wife had that's left her with a bad back and unable to ride in my 2000 Silverado.
I am very mechanically inclined, and have performed engine swaps to include changing engine types. My first conversion was installing a 350 into a 79 Chevy halfton that had an inline 6. The same truck also had a TH350, a 700R4 and a TH400 transmission in its life. I had an S10 pickup that was going to get an LSx conversion before some beeotch decided to pull out in front of me at a 2 way stop where she had the stop sign and I didn't. On that truck I'd installed electric fans and Caddilac CTS seats. My current truck started life as a Z71 with a 5.3L and a 4L60E transmission, and now sports a 4.8L and a 4L80E that will smoke the old setup like it was a 6 cylinder. And, I was building it as a high MPG truck too.
I do have some tuning experience using EFI Live, so I'm hoping to find a like product to work on the LS so I can improve how it operates. Later on, much as this may
disgust
the purists, I will probably look at replacing the 3.9L with a Chevy 6.2L LS engine and possibly a C5+ Corvette 6 speed auto transaxle
. This won't be for a year or three though, if I do.
The main reason I would select a Chevy LS engine is I'm very comfortable with them and can likely integrate the Ford electronics with it. Don't ask how yet, won't be working that out unless I decide to do it.
Anyway, I like to help others improve their rides and will offer advice to help an owner achieve their goal. Sometimes I may not agree with what someone is doing, but will still try to lend a hand. I am very opinionated though, so if I'm helping someone I'll also add in why I think it's a bad idea and will present alternatives even as I offer assistance. At this time I know almost nothing about Lincoln LS cars or Ford architecture, but I'm a fast study and have an affinity for automotive tech. I also have a knack for it, because when I'm working on a car I can almost throw parts in the general vicinity and they'll install themselves. While my direct experience won't apply to an LS, and really I don't intend to do much to this as long as my wife needs it for transportation, a lot of it will apply to anything with wheels. I hope to be a net addition to this board. Thanks for reading. Did I mention I also like to type?
