I went to the painter and installed the steel intake today and can't seem to get one hose to stay connected. Any tricks to this.

Also pics of it installed and of the rotors I painted over the weekend.

Busy weekend ahead of me.

Brakes, Rims, Flip-Flop Trunk, Headlights, Tail Lights, and whatever else I can get done.

Also got a new tune from Torrie to try out and my custom speaker box is on its way.

Stereo next week....

looks good. i'm hoping my intake is built soon. another week and i'm just gonna cancel and start looking for a used one.

imo, i would have left the cover black and painted the intake red. and maybe red lettering on the black cover.

that IS a lot of red.. i prolly would have left the V8 in chrome and left some sort of black on it. jus to now have too much red.. does that paint on the rotors come off? i noticed u got some on the edges.. some over spray.. that will jus come off with the wear and tear right?.

anything else done? what about the lambo's and etc...? is it done bein painted?

when is carlisle?

The overspray will come right off the first time I use the brakes. I taped around the hub but it was a pain.

Bodykit is painted and half on, They were working on the doors as well.

I am guaranteed to have it back to me and done with the exception of the speaker box by Friday afternoon. I left him the ends of the 2 amps so he can paint those as well.

He has everything painted, just putting it all together. I am a little worried but he should take care of me.

Carlisle is June 1st. Gonna be down to the wire to get it all done.

i need to paint the ends of my amp as well.. its prolly next on my list after my summer make over

Maybe some black high heat silicone to hold the hose in?

is it a rubber hose? i dont have an intake on my LS, but i'm assuming its a rubber hose.. if so whats the diameter of the hose? u can get clamps for that.. if one hose is a solid material and the other has the ability to be manipulated.. u can get an O-clamp i believe its called.. something along those lines.. it looks like u have one on ur intake to hold it into place.. around the rubber seal.. if u use some high heat silicone, than u won't be able to take off the intake right?

I think that's what ford calls a "norma fitting". I don't think you'll get it to stay as I belive it requires a lip on what it's connecting to. Maybe just replace the end with something else and clamp it on?

All intakes are in stock now. Yours was shipped last week. Check your account on the website for the tracking number. You'll get it on Friday.

+1.

You will have to swap that whole piece out to an actual hose. What I did with my 05 LS (different intake, same type of hose problem) is that I took the stock hose w/ fittings off and just took a measurement of what diameter the valve cover connection would have to be and also the intake connection. I also took mental note of what overall shape the new hose would have to take to get from point A to point B. After that I cruised on down to Auto Zone and went back in their hoses section and rummaged for about 15 minutes till I came up with a hose that matched each fitting size and also had the overall shape I was looking for. Most likely the hose will contain other bends and shapes in there, but your only concerned with a small section. Then just buy it, take it home andcut off the other pieces of the hose that dont matter and you got your valve cover to intake hose. Put it in place and clamp it. Looks like stock afterwards. Hope this helps.

Those intakes should have either came with a compatible connector there, or the different hose to attach it. The same goes for the MAS too! That is totally botched! Two things that should be fixed on those 00-02 intakes is providing the one new hose and actually having the MAS connect to the tube instead of merely resting on it with friction tape! It would be bad juju to get unmetered air in there because of a MAS that is not even really connected well to the intake tube. I could not believe my eyes when I seen that for the first time! At least provide a piece of rubber sleeve to go over the tube and MAS and be able to clamp both together without any possbility of vac leaks!

It should just push in. It may be tight but you want it to be. Just use a smidge of oil on the o-ring and inside the tube and push in. I have the stainless steel tube on my LS and it took a bit of pressure to get it in.

I actually shaved mine a tad bit...not too much then pushed in and I managed to get it kind of sideways. I havent had any problems yet, does this hurt anything?

I have the aluminum tube and that hose will never go in. I did some shopping and found a perfect solution, but you might laugh if I told you, it is a perfect fit and uses the stock hose. You could replace the hose all together like rocket said.

Only if it leaks, does it look like crap.

The first batch of aluminum tubes had a smaller inner diameter for that particular nipple. It has since been corrected on the newer versions. However, there should not be any problems with the stainless steel version in which Keith has above. It should just push in. I have the stainless steel tubes made locally and have quick access to the manufacturer. The manufacturer of the aluminum tubes is out of state but I got this particular problem fixed and all the new aluminum tubes have been fixed.

Actually it's still in there real tight. No it doesn't look like crap at all, I used a power drimel about the size of the hole and went around it a few times until I could work the tubing in. I only did the inside, so none of the places I shaved are showing.

Is there really a difference between the aluminum and the stainless steel? Does one reflect heat better or is it just the price of the metal.

Both are metal so they conduct heat accordingly. However, aluminum will dissipate heat quicker than steel. The advantage of steel over aluminum is durability. The polished aluminum requires more maintenance. The stainless steel tube only requires a scuff pad every now and then. Also, the stainless steel tube will not ding or dent like the aluminum will.

Good you got it worked out. My fix worked out fine. And I'm glad I bought mine right away.
