i just purchased a 04 ls on fri. and i love the car . we took it on a trip on sat and i noticed a rubbing noise in the steering wheel / column. have any one else encountered such a noise or similar problem ?

There's a TSB for this; it affected some '03s and early '04s. Your car should still be under the factory 4yr/50,000mi. warranty, so take it to your preferred Ford or Lincoln dealer and ask them to fix it.

IIRC, the first step is to add a friction modifier (or somesuch) to the power steering system; if that fails, they replace the steering rack. I think ToddG had this done to his previous LS (an '03).

thank you for the info. ill drive it this weekend and see if i can pin point exactually where or what it is

TSB on this

affects 03 and up

involves flushing the power steering system and adding friction modifier to the system.

cause lack of lubrication getting to one of the seals in the rack, the flush we do forces fluid up into the seal where it can be lubricated and coated with friction modifier.

works 9 out of 10 times. Other times we replace the rack if the noise wont go away.

I have the same noise on my 04LS, I plan to call the dealership Monday to make an appointment. I'll let you know what they have to say.

I had the same problem ith my 04 LS and I took it to the dealership and they did added something to the steering wheel fluids and took care of the problem.
