Ron Paul, Fred Thompson Lead Newsmax Poll

Wednesday, January 2, 2008 5:28 PM

Newsmax’s Internet primary poll of the Republican race for president is released today – with more than 400,000 respondents to our non-scientific survey.

With 23% of the vote, Congressman Ron Paul wins our online survey. Paul has the most aggressive internet presence of any Republican candidate and has already won several online polls, not to mention raising $20 million last quarter, mostly online.

Pulling solid numbers behind Paul were Fred Thompson with 19% of the vote, and Mike Huckabee, a late rising star, with 16%.

Newsmax poll respondents believe Rudy Giuliani – with 28% of the vote – has the best chance of defeating Hillary Clinton.

The Newsmax poll shows surprisingly little support for former front-runner John McCain.

Among the Republicans listed in the poll results, Newt Gingrich has not announced that he will seek the nomination, and Tom Tancredo and Sam Brownback have dropped out of the race.

Newsmax will provide the results of this poll to major media and share them with radio talk show hosts across the country.

Newsmax reports have been cited by national major media, including Fox News, CNN and MSNBC.

...Do you have to be a Paul hater to recognize that a non-scientific poll conducted online by Newsmax is ridiculous and irrelevant for anything other than better understanding Newsmax readers?

Have you made it your job to post whore in my threads, troll? I would be flattered, except I don't value your opinion...in the slightest.

Will you be citing any more unscientific internet polls in the future?

What do you think that poll proves? Ron Paul voters are enthusiastic supporters? I would agree and this poll does demonstrate that. He certainly has the most passionate supporters in this primary process.

What else? That Ron Paul voters can hit the reload button faster? Or that after they finish writing Ron Paul for President on bedsheets, they are motivated to vote on internet polls?

Is there a national, scientific poll that provides information that corroborates the outcome of this Newsmax poll, showing that kind of double digit support for Paul? Perhaps you should link to that poll here instead. As far as I know, Paul has somewhere between 3 and 7% support amongst Republicans, no where near 23.4%.

As usual, troll, you are misinformed and out of touch. If you want to see a conventional poll, look here: Ron Paul at 10% in Iowa.

Oh, and one other thing - Huckabee is polling at 31%. Do you think he will actually win the nomination? If not, then what does that say about your precious SCIENTIFIC polls?

The Newmax poll was a NATIONAL unscientific internet poll, having NOTHING to do with the Iowa caucus specifically. I provided you with the NATIONAL Ron Paul numbers, which in no way resemble the numbers generated in the novelty poll that has so excited you.

With that said, even the the 10% number you've cherry picked in no way resembles the 23.4% generated in your novelty poll. So you failed twice in that single response to me.

I presume you're talking about the Zogby poll tracking the Iowa Caucus. In case you didn't know, that's only for the IOWA CAUCUS. The winner of the Iowa caucus does not automatically go on to win the nomination. As of right now, it does look the Huckabee might pull out a narrow win at the Iowa caucus though. He's averaging about 29.7% in the major polls to Romney's 26.7%. Some polls give Romney a slight lead, a few more give the advantage to Huckabee.

Ron Paul's still averaging 7.3%. (between 4% to 10%)

I expect that you understand the difference between SCIENTIFIC polling methods and a novelty poll posted on the internet, so I'll refrain from explaining it.

Can't answer my question, can you coward? Still the MAN WITHOUT A CANDIDATE, and now you can't even venture an opinion about whether or not Huckabee can win the nomination.

What else should we expect from an ignorant trolling post whore.

Thank you for noncontributing to this thread, as usual.

Huckabee is the projected winner in Iowa. After watching him on the Tonight Show I must say I'm impressed with what an affable likeable unsanctimonious guy he is.
He played some electric guitar with the band and seemed to be the kind of guy moderate voters and even Democrats could vote for.
Not the usual stuffed shirt and light years ahead of Bush on a popularity scale.
A very good start.

He still hasn't been scrutinized by the press yet. He does come across a likable and unsanctimonious, to think that he's just some kind of naive hillbilly rube is a big East coast mistake. He's from Arkansas, just as Bill Clinton before him. He's a very skilled politician. The Easterners all took the Southern guy for granted, underestimating him.

I'm very concerned that he's going to have a glass jaw in a general election. I would also expect that now that he's just pulled out a strong victory in Iowa, he's going to get some of the attention from the media he'd managed to avoid in the past.

Comments he's made in the past are going to haunt him. They are easy to attack him, they will resonate in the memories of casual voters, and they reinforce every negative stereotype people on the coasts have about Southern Conservative preachers..... despite the fact Huckabee really isn't really all the conservative. We'll see... but I expect his appeal to fade once the national media turns their focus on him. Or at least that's what I hope.

Huckabee said they should lock away all AIDS patience. he compared homosexuality to bestiality, he thinks the Earth's only 6,000 old and doesn't believe in evolution.... I like the fact he supports the FAIR TAX, but that will be an effective weapon against him as well since it's so easy to misrepresent and demonize.

Old headline from 12/11/07:
DEMS HOLD FIRE ON HUCKABEE; SEE ‘EASY KILL’ IN GENERAL ELECTION

People love an underdog who confounds the pundits and bucks the conventional wisdom.
The self important we're smarter than you media is not held in high esteem by the average voters.
Looks like it's going to be a very interesting year.
