I just got a 92 Mark and today when I tried to get the heat to work all that came out was cold air even though the climate control was on 90.I checked the coolant level and it was full. After about 10min. the temp. gauge went from cold to full hot so I shut it down because I didn't want to risk it overheating. What should I do?

I had this exact same problem, turned out to be an airlock in the heater core, else it could be the blend door stuck (you should hear this moving when you adjust the temp from hot to cold or vice versa).

Welcome.
A few things come to mind:

Is there coolant in the engine? A stuck thermostat can make a radiator look full. Unless you personally do a coolant change and refill, you can't be sure about your system's level with a quick once over.

Did you wait until the car was actually up to operating temperature? When the Climate Control is set to AUTO and the cabin thermostat is set to 90, the blower won't do anything until the coolant temp is warm to hot. Even when the blower first kicks on, the vents are discharging about 80 degrees of heated air. That too will feel cool on our 92 degree hands.

Is the heater core connected? Locate where the heater hoses go through the fire wall, side by side ... or not.

Coolant temperature guage is off. Our guages lie. Ask the local parts store how to test your engine's coolant temp from the radiator cap or from the inlet hose.

Come back here and tell us what you've found.

Thanks everyone.I came home late from work today so I didn't have a chance to look at it but atleast now I have a few places to start.I'll keep you posted.

hey guys, good to be back on forum.:D anyway i am still having the same heat problem with my car. heat is all the way up but nothin but cold air coming out. i did locate the blend door and yes it is working (opening and closing) but still no heat. funny thing is when i have the blower on the lowest setting warm air does trickle out and eventually warms the car but when the blower speed is increased no heat can be felt. i did not check to see if the heater core is connected but i assume it would be or i would not feel the heat that comes out when on low setting. any ideas?

Welcome back.
Some of us don't take winter breaks ya know! :)

You have GOT to get Rick's opinion on this. I'm of the mind; find out what it ain't first. Normally, our Lincoln Mark VIIs fail into a HEAT mode more so than anything else, telling me that you have more of a physical problem than anything.

You have GOT to verify those hoses Man.

I finally had a chance to look at the car today and the first thing I tried was running the car with the cap off to get the air out of the system and sure enough it worked. The heat was working great. Then I got out of the car and noticed a little coolant underneath and it was coming from the waterpump,so now I have something else to work on next weekend.

Congratulations.
I'd tighten my hoses first to see if that's the culprit.
