Hi guys,

Here's my problem, I stored my car over the winter and it looks like it took out my battery. No big deal I thought, so I try to boost the car and the light on the dash just flashes and the car turns over but no start. I then tried one of my other keys for the car and it does the same thing. Could my car have lost it's memory of my keys? Any way to program them myself? My car is a 2001 LS V8 sport. Can I diable the PATS system?

Thanks
Eric

I had the same thing , your tilt steering could have yanked the wire out for the ring that reads the key.

this was on 2000 town car

Yeah, your keys are blank to the module. If you have 3 keys, 1 good one, and 2 bad you might be able to trick the module, and re-program the 2 bad ones.

I know it works on focus's at work, but might not on an LS.

Your engine does spin over?

Doesn't sound like an issue with the PATS not accepting the key. Normally, that wouldn't even allow the starter to turn.

Turn the key to run and wait for the PATS light to stop its steady flash. When it does, it should flash out a code. Let us know what the code is.

How did you boost it? With another car or battery, or with a boost/charger. If the latter, that might be the problem. The AC boosters don't really work if the battery is completely discharged.

Finanally getting around to the car again! I have since replaced the battery the car turns over perfectly just a fast flashing light on the dash.

I'm showing a code of 616 or maybe just a repeating 61. I was going to have it towed to the dealer Tuesday, I have all three keys none make any difference.

Are you sure it's not 16?

16 is a PCM or instrument cluster issue.

Could be a 16 also, I found an article showing a Pats DTC chart and it shows four digit codes

1600 Non- Pats key or damaged key
1601 Unprogrammed encoded iginition key detected(leave iginition on for 20 seconds before trying a programmed key in Anti Scan mode)

It definately is a pats code now I'm guessing its the 1601 code, going to try and time it out to see if one of the other keys will work. The light is flashing very fast on the dash as if it doesn't recognize the keys.

Tried the time out on all three keys and it doesn't start....

Anyone know of a way to diable the PATS system? or if you know if the dealer will disable the Anti Theft system so it won't happen again?

The four digit codes returned by a Ford specific code scanner are not at all the same as the two digit codes that the PATS light flashes out. Code 16 is a valid PATS flash code and is not at all equal to code 1601!

In any event, you are into a problem that will require the dealers equipment to resolve.

No, there is no way to disable it. It will have to be repaired. If it is code 16, then it is not really a PATS system fault anyway. (It is a fault with related systems in the PCM.)

Well it's fixed now....basically the pcm relay and terminals were corroded so no pcm power. Replaced terminals and relay and it's running again!

What did lscts mean by terminals?
