NOT fair

can they just take your car like that?

Eff that, i'd wreck my car first before i let someone have it,

whats not fair about it, i feel if you act like a jackass on the street and get caught and the cops take your car, good for them, let them have the car, if those cars meant that much to the owners, they wouldnt have put the car in jeopardy in the first place, sure its fair. im totally against street racing so thats why i feel this way, way too many innocent people lose their lives or have them altered for the worst because of irresponsible people and their cars. and yes they most certainly can just take your car, if you did something bad enough, most people who get stopped and arrested for whatever reason, their car goes to impound, if they go to jail and dont get the car in a certain amount of time, it becomes property of the police, they can also take your car on the spot if you are stopped and they find drugs in your car, not a joint, but an amount that would be considered intent to distribute. they can instantly take the car.

I don't agree with 'the man' taking your car like that - thats legalized theft in my eyes. I would rather serve hard time than have MY possesions touched, regardless of what i may have done. Sure, street racing is bad, but then so is all of the other reckless driving that i see here on a DAILY basis. Why doesn't 'the man' take their cars too? Seems the police are too focused on this whole street racing thing and are using it as an excuse to have their own fun, with property that is not rightfully theirs.

You may be aginst street racing but have you ever gone I have for many years
and in our group we have NEVER had anything worse than a blown motor It is safer to race in a group who all are knowing what is going on than to race down the freeway in the day and there are way more deaths from road rage and just bad driving
If I was out street racing and got foud by the cops this law would make me run and by that I would be risking alot more by running than racing

I'm also with you that confiscation and in some cases, crushing the vehicles is absolutely wrong. I am confident that all this does is strengthen the racers passion and conviction. Vengence is something, indeed. Imagine what those guys will come back with next time. So, back to this story on confiscation, bad idea big time. Car culture has been around a long time, being a radical or rebel has been around for a while too and neither are going away anytime soon. Teach people how to drive properly why don't you (aimed at schools and the establishment) so the youthful (and others) might not get as careless and might have a higher level of car control.

By the way, street racing isn't a cause to jump on the band wagon for like terrorism, drunk driving, drug culture, acts of religious fanaticism etc. It can kill but screwing around in the pool, boxing, soccer, skateboarding, bmx/mountain biking and working under your car for that matter can kill too but we don't talk taboo about them. I understand clearly that street racing can be a bad thing but some of you need to calm down a little and look for a real cause to get on the soap box about. Why not chose something that can really benefit civilization. Over the top ranting about street racing isn't one of them and isn't earning the 'ranter' any brownie points, trust me.

well i'll never have to worry about the police taking my car because i dont put myself in any situation that would allow it, so i guess, is it fair or not?? dont put yourself in that situation to find out if its fair or not, plain and simple lol.

Street racers run no matter what the laws are.

Street racing is a fools game compairing to skateboarding and soccer ibmx/mountain biking and working under your car is a complete joke.

You are putting others at risk by what you are doing.

If you want to race go to the track.
Laws get changed because of what has happened in the community.

Here if you get caught going over 100 MPH you don't drive for 6 months, the law came from some stupid kid going too fast on a cycle.

Who am I putting at risk by what I am doing other people who are racing they all know the risk don’t forget just cause you are at the track doesn’t mean you can't die
Also for some reason I hit a person who ran across the road and I wasn’t racing how could this happen cause I was not racing
and I watched a Kid get hit by a caddi He was crossing the road on his 3 wheeler and got hit
there was no racing going on. What I am getting at is THINGS HAPPEN

You may want the government in every aspect of your life but I don’t.
If they must be evolved with driving why can’t they teach people how to drive not to just slow them down. This doesn’t help going slow will not make you a better driver

One more thing I would srteet race alot less if ther was a track closer than
2.5 hours away

i'm willing to bet there are more deaths caused by bad drivers driving badly than street racing. a lot more deaths. as in immeasureable gap. people speeding by in horrid blizzards, not signaling, eating/texting/talking on the phone/balancing checkbook while driving, being female while driving...(heehee)... or just being a bad driver. so now if you want we can just begin taking people's cars away on their first moving infraction? they are the larger threat. also what about stupid people doing stupid things near roads? walking drunk back form the bar on a bridge wearing all black? i've seen it done. should we cut off their legs? they consciously made a bad choice and put themselves and others at risk. racing between the lights has been around since 1950 and its not going away anytime soon, yes there are those that do it too much and in the wrong areas and at the wrong times and in the wrong kinda vehicles (glance to big winged honda crowd..) but you can't stop people from being competetive or wanting to go fast. putting the two together... you get street racing. and the more you crack down the more the fast and the furious crowd will be drawn to it...

I agree with you there MMA. All motoring stupidity should be dealt with in an equal fashion. Seems to me that the media is also overly biased - i seen some nasty accidents on these roads, yet saw nothing about them in the news. I bet if those same accidents were as a result of street racing, they would get huge coverage.

Your on public roads I guess its the public your putting at risk besides you and who your racing.
At the track everybody signs a waiver has to pass tech, sure you can die but you know it going in, the only people at risk are the ones who signed no one else.

True $hit happens

Nope I like less government :shifty:

You are 65 miles from Grove creek.

I know its 1/8 but its a race track.

Sounds like they are cracking down on more then street racing.

http://www.wcnc.com/news/topstories/stories/wcnc-022008-al-street_racing.10c8094a.html

Police say 61 percent of the fatal accidents in Charlotte were caused by aggressive driving. So the police department’s message to street racers is clear.

They use street racing to get the headlines to put the word out they are cracking down.

i think that is a very hard punshment just for street racing and they should not be allowed to just take your car. like 93mk8 said i would total my car before i would let them take it. what i think would be fair is that the cops used it while you are in jail but must give it back to you when you get out and if they wreak it they have to pay for it.

when we race it is on a dead street as in no traffic and normaly we have cars at both ends so if there was public at risk we would not race
Grove creek as for that haha I would rather just use my g-tec and use the on ramp to the freeway than drive over a hour

What you guys are doing is alot safer then stop light racing, it can be fun to race friends I had a buddy that had a 70 challenger I love to beat that car and did it as often as I could:) I would race him every day if he was dumb enough to get waxed AGAIN.

Have you been to Grove creek ?
Its small I know but run by some great people and it has everything you need to race.
Its a real track great place to pratice your reaction time and dial you car in all the info you need is there.
Being a hour away you and your buds could race all day for 50 bucks.
If you ever made it to BIR or Rock Falls you would be ready to go.

Been there a few times it was a great place for my son to run his JR.
He never raced before and it was a great place for him to get started.
I think we might run for points at Rock Falls now that he has found the tree.
