Obama Fiddles as Iran Burns

you know as well as i do, if Obama locked him self in the basement of the white house for the next four years the media will hail him as the greatest president since Washington

If he did that, he would be the greatest President since Washington--but only if he took Old Joe, the Cabinet, and Congress with him. :D

I do have to agree with that...

But as for his treatment of Iran, I'm not so quick to wholly condemn him.
It would have been infinitely worse for him to have used rhetoric that would have given the Iranians the impression they had his support while he lacked the conviction to carry through with the support or take bolder actions against the ruling regime.

He should be giving them arms and substantively supporting them. But that would involve him having an actual backbone.

Actually, I liked McCain's response to the Russian invasion of Georgia. I also liked Bush's State of the Union address in 2004 where he pledged American support of any people who wanted freedom around the world.

Obama is useless.

Really? You guys are going to make a case out of this? How is this even comparable to katrina? You guys bitch and bitch and bitch about us policing the world and we need to withdraw our troops, bring em home and seal the borders, and then you bitch because obama doesnt give a :q:q:q:q about iran tearing its self apart? My god, that guy can do no right. Iran hates us. Shame on him for taking his daughters for ice cream. and shame on you guys for driving luxury cars when there are starving children in africa. You guys seem to doubt everything he does, but expect him to do everything. Do you want obama to hold a national candle lit vigil for the violence in iran? They have their own government to take care of their problems, get over yourselves.

If I quit driving a luxury car, that wouldn't help one child in Africa. If I spoke out, nobody over there in Iran would hear. However, if Obama gave enough of a crap to voice his support for those oppressed in Iran, it could make a difference. Unfortunately, he doesn't.

Welcome to LvC 2009 :)

Wonder how this compares to the treatment of Bush during Katrina.

To be fair, comparing the two is silly, one was a disaster in America, the other is in a country America may soon be at war with, if we listen to some of the Right-minded people in here.

Though Bush did get unfair blame for Katrina.

I find it ironic that the same people who were calling for us to "bomb bomb bomb Iran" just a few months ago have magically become aware that there are people in Iran who aren't as different than us after all, and now are screaming the loudest in support of the downtrodden over there. Does anyone think that any of these people would be rising up against their own government if we or Israel had attacked them? I hope this episode explodes some of the bullsh!t stereotypes of terrorist-loving Arabs.

As for what we can do, I've yet to hear a cogent alternative from Obama's critics. Interfering in another nation's affairs has, almost without exception, turned out to be a major mistake. Furthermore, there isn't even any concrete proof of election fraud, regardless of how likely it is. Without proof or at least overwhelming evidence, we have no imperative to interfere, as much as we'd all like to.

Another childish outburst that mischaracterizes and demonizes.

LOL, it's exactly the same kind of argument that you praise (and usually post) when it's coming from a "conservative" source like Coulter or David Limbaugh. My GOD you are such a hypocrite.

Don't look now, but you're making an argument that your side doesn't want to hear regarding 2000 and 2004.

You must wrongly assume that I support the Iranian government's position. I do not. I'm simply a realist.

Just because you are too ignorant to understand what they are talking about and unwilling to understand it doesn't mean they are mischaracterizing and demonizing. Maybe you should take the time to understand what they are saying (and the factual, historical and philosophical basis for it) before you dismiss it.

I for one am up in the air on the matter... I don't think we should be involving ourselves in any other country's business..

Dude, you missed such a great opportunity. You could have just said I was the hypocrite for posting something just like what I had earlier criticized as childish, and pwned me. :D

See, I can be self-deprecating on occasion. You really should try it once in a while instead of trying to be right all the damn time.

Back to the brawling...

With that said, the fact that you can still deny that Limbaugh's screed was full of "mischaracterizing and demonizing" simply defies all common sense.

I'm not going to argue the point any further because it's off topic and you're so sure you're right it's futile. I await your final word on the subject as is your way.

This is why you're an amateur at debating despite your obvious high level of intelligence. Such extreme ad hominem phrases leave little wiggle room and undermine your cred.

AP gets tired of Obama's double talk:

It’s the pundits job to second-guess, Obama said, but “only I’m the president of the United States.”

Which is why he tried to balance every hands-on critique of the Iranian government with a caveat that he’s hands-off.

Hands on: “The United States and the international community have been appalled and outraged …”

Hands off: The Iranian people can speak for themselves.”

Hands on: “We deplore the violence against innocent civilians anywhere it takes place.”

Hands off: The accusations of U.S. meddling “are patently false.”

Hands on: “…. threats, beatings and imprisonments …”

Hands off: “The United States respects the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and is not at all interfering in Iran’s affairs.”
