What octane gas does everybody put in their car? Me, 91. Do you notice a difference if you put in a low octane?

I use Sunoco 93 or is it 94?? I always use the high octaine! I've never but anything lower than that! I wouldn't even dare to do so! The car runs GREAT on high octaine for me that is!! :L

92-93 octane

Don't go cheap. The pennies you save will bite you in the a$$ in the end. Also...don't waste your money putting premium in a vehicle that does not need it. All you're doing there is making you're ignition system have to work harder to light the fires.

I never put anything less then 91, but thing is, around my house there isn't a lot of 93 octane. I wonder why?

I think it really depends on the company selling the product. I know each state has rules as to what can be "premium" grade fuel but above and beyond that is usually a marketing technique since most people think that if they put higher octane fuel in their car it burns cleaner/makes the car more powerful...

Unless you are getting pinging somewhere octane has nothing to do with it..... in any mode of driving. If there's no pinging, the car doesn't know or care what octane if in there. It is in reactive mode.....all it can do is dial back the timing if it sees pinging, it can't recognize higher octane fuel.

Remember, the car's best performance is on the lowest octane that it needs before any pinging occurs. Lower octane has the very minor effect of
advancing the timing a very tiny bit as it ignites more readily.

SO......

It was not easy finding the specs on that V8, but I eventually found them.

If your driving style doesn't give ANY ping with 87, keep doing it. Run a couple of tanks of 91-93 octane if you run lower and/or vice versa, just to see if you notice any changes in performance and/or gas mileage. If not keep doing what you're doing.

Even if you notice a difference, you will have to decide if the extra
$.20/gallon is worth the change that you see.

The compression ratio is 10.8:1, but Honda has engines with 11:1 CRs and they specify 87 octane.

I'm sure that other LS owners on the Internet or wherever get pinging on lower octane, but that's probably a driving-style issue, maybe not. If you drive with a feather-foot, the car will lock the TC and get into the higher gears more quickly, so a light touch on the gas lugs the engine a bit. If you drive a bit more aggressively, the TC will unlock and you will be in lower gears, which are easier on the engine.

I'll run whatever is the least exspensive as LONG AS MY engine agrees. And so far it runs FINE with 87 octane.

We had a similar conversation with the LS engineering team - they strongly recommend 91+ -> and didn't feel there was enough adjustment within the PCM parameters to handle 89 on a constant basis.

I've always wondered why people pay $45k for a car and then risk a engine on pennies.

the difference here between Premium and Unleaded is $0.20 a gallon. $3.60 a tank - 1 penny a mile. 1 penny for better performance and no risks.

:I Thanks Quik for trying to tell these people again. :I

As the saying goes,"If you cant afford the maintance and gas on a luxury car then you better not buy it." Belive me people its like Ford is making any money buy sticking 91 octane sticker on the car.
