Odd braking experience

Today i was approaching a light and it turned yellow right at that perfect spot where you have to decide to slam on it or cruise thru a red. I opted to stop and i heard the normal message "chime", looked down and the parking brake light had briefly flashed and the message center displayed something, didnt have time to read it. It all happened within a second, but i tested the parking brake when i got home and it was that light on the dash. Any others have this happen? The car is going to the dealer next tuesday anyway so maybe i'll mention this.

sounds like maybe fluid is a bit low and when you jammed the brakes it dropped below the level of the sensor then was ok once you let off?

That's what I was thinking as well... You could probably check your Status on your display to run through and see if brake fluid is ok,.... If it says it is, a visual check could confirm it...

Sounds logical, but does low fluid cause the parking brake light to come on?

Is there a separate parking brake and other brake light on your car? Not sure on mine, but I thought it was just 1 brake light and a "parking brake on" indicator in the message center.

It is more than likely the brake fluid. Check to make sure it is filled to the appropriate levels according to the owner's manual.

Unless Lincoln is doing something non-standard, the parking brake light will come on if your fluid is low. it will also come on for other problems too, but yours sounds like the fluid low warning.

Just take a peak at your reservoir and if it needs fluid add some.

BTW, brake fluid eats paint etc so don't spill any.

Boy....will it ever eat paint Jim! It will even eat concrete if you don't clean up a spill. Corrosive stuff!

Yeah Brake fluid is good stuff. I actually used it once to remove varnish from an old gun so I could refinish the stock. It worked great and is way cheaper than the real varnish removers.

Just another two cents. Get your brake pads checked. If the brake fluid is so low that a hard stop makes it slosh away from the sensor, I'll bet that the pistons in the calipers are all the way out because your pads need replacing.
