ok, so the cupholders in the console are lame, i spill coffee on it a lil bit and it sticks, plus, the damn balancing cupholder things do nothing but swing my drink around from left to right, i took out the balancing things and things have been going well, but the lame thing is theyre right above all the window switches and the mirror adjusting switch, so some coffe spilled, now i cant turn my mirrors to the right. worst design for cupholders? i think so. what do you think?

Lol

Mine came with one broke(swingy part removed) and one still all there. I'm not a huge fan of the swingy part ecept my son's little cups/drinks fit ok in the complete cup holder. The other "works" but ya it's stupidly located. Luckily all my switches are still working so I've been putting napkins under my drinks to try to prevent any spill damage.

Not.

These factory installed cupholders were designed in 1982 and released in the 1984 Lincoln Mark VII to temporarily hold a closed beverage. Also, what we consider a LARGE drink today was unheard of in 1982. An eight ounce "cup-o-joe" was normal and a 12 ounce was a large.

Anyone that does not want those silly little cupholders in their Mark VIIs, just remove them and mail them to us,
The Lincoln Mark VII Club, Box 42678, Philadelphia, PA 19101-2678
I'll gladly refund your shipping cost.

The factory cup holders come in three parts:
the drawer
the ring
the retainer
The drawer is the main assembly that slides in and out of the arm rest (console 045A06).
The ring is latched into but not affixed to the drawer, front and rear, allowing the beverage to tilt left and right.
The retainer is latched into but not affixed to the ring, left and right, provinding a solid bottom for the cup holder and allowing for flat storage into the upper section of the console.

In 1984, this feature was only available on the Lincoln Mark VII and had no official designation by itself other than a component of the floor console. See ebay item #8052031479 before April 8, 2006

I would have never given a second thought to the issue of cup holders, till mine broke and I found out how expensive/rare they seem to be.
Still, I like the car and can't stand to have broken items on it, lest it continue a downward slide into a beater. Too nice a car too let that happen.

Yup.

I remember those... Well at least the Mark VII gave you two holders.. Mark VIII's were meant for only one person to be in the car.

One cup holder. Go figure.

But I remember trying to maneuver my Mark VII and not spilling.. You wonder if the engineer ever drove the car with a filled open cup in the cup holder.

Yup yup.

I ripped mine out because everytime i shift gears (5spd) my elbow would tap the button and it came flying out...get quite annoying after about 3 times then it flew gracefully to the backseat where it stayed until a long awaited trip to the dumpster.

and ugly headlights! :p :D

I wouldn't say "ugly", but not the best appearence compared to a GenI. On the upside, I can see very well at night. As it has been said in a rock song," you don't always get what you want, you get what you need..." :)
