Hello all. Jst wondering about changing my own oil. I've changed oil in every vechicle I've ever owned and most have been ok. There has been a couple though that I swore I would never attempt again. Is my LS going to be one of these? Just by looking in the engine compartment I can't even see the filter plus I know there isn't much ground clearance. Just wanting your thoughts.

floor jack and jack stands. That is the only way you will be able to do it but it is a snap. If you don't have those two implements then it might be worth letting a shop do it considering the cost of the floor jack and jack stands.

the oil filter is very accessible from underneath the car - in plain slight and easy to reach. I change my own oil as well. the only bad thing is that the V8's filter is completely on it's side - so you have to spill some oil out of the filter when screwing the new one back on.

Well I've always used a set of ramps and let me see if I can explain this. My driveway is on an incline so I back the vehicle up it put the ramps in front and then pull onto them. This gives me the clearance I need and it keeps the car somewhat level. It works great on trucks but it only gives maybe 6" of clearance. Do you think this will be enough. Thanks eL eS

Thanks Quik. I can deal with the oil spilling out a little just as long as I don't have to use the ole "screwdriver driven into the filter" to get it out. Another thing, the parts stores here in po dunk GA are pretty bad with what they stock. Is the filter a fairly common one. I know almost all the ford trucks and V8 mustangs I've owned have used the Fl-1A motorcraft.

the filter is a FL-2008 - unique but does cross over to most major aftermarket brands.

Thanks again Quik. I think I'll call around today and see if anyone has it before I make any plans. Of course I have to do the whole valentine thing this weekend and I'm not sure my girlfriend would appreciate it if I layed under a car all day. Yeah I know what you're thinking-it's either her or the car.

You may also find the filter as FL-2021, which I was told replaced the 2008 by my dealer. The oil change is EASY on this car. I am used to the Mustang and my 5.0 Ranger where I had two drain plugs. I use ramps to do mine, but it is not on an incline. I wouldn't want it rolling off onto me. :O

I believe the FL-218 was introduced on late 2002+ models - it's about a 1/2 shorter than the FL-2008.

Ford part number
FL-2008 is XW4Z-6731-BA
FL-218 is 3W4Z-6731-AB.

I haven't heard of the 2021

I just did mine a couple of weeks ago, I also bought the FL-2021 thats what they gave me. I asked for the FL2008 but they told me that it was superseeded. I also use ramps. Very easy oil change. Also Mobile 1

Thanks to everyone for your input. I'll definetly give it a shot. I think I may try a synthetic blend instead of pure synthetic, any thoughts?

Don't waste your momey on Synthetic Blends. If you want use the same brand of oil, and blend yourself. Put in at least 2 quarts of full synthetic. Or just use a regular oil. Most of all auto manufacturers of HP cars recomend Mobile 1....

Yeah come to think of it I'm noe sure what the use of a blend would be. I ran Mobil 1 in a couple of my previous vehicles do I guess I'll just bite the bullet and spend the money again on this car. Thanks again.
