just wanting to know what is the best type of oil for a 2k v8 and also what would be the best brand of filter? Also, is it possible to access the oil filter and drainage bolt for changing the oil? :slam

I also have a 2000 V8. Every one has a different opinion on what type of oil you should use and oil filter. If you search the subject it has been discussed in length and from what I have read it basically comes down to personal preference and where you live. I use Quaker State 5W-30 and use a Napa Gold oil filter. The oil filter is about twelve dollars and I live in the midwest and have always used Quaker State. I jack up the passenger side then put a jack stand under it and can easily get to the filter and drain plug. Good Luck.

a majority of people on here including me uses mobil 1 full synthetic its probably the best out there i also use a motorcraft filter...im changing my oil, filter and air filter friday as a matter of fact

i use castrol synthetic with a wix oil and air filter, like it was said before it's all on you what you want to run.

Mobile One Full Synthetic 5w30 EP
and Motor Craft Oil Filter
also i have heard good things about wix
but i like Motor craft

thanks

I appreciate the info fellows, but still wondering about the actual getting to the filter... Is it fairly easy? :repost:

Just look at it. One of the easiest oil changes I have ever had to do. 10 seconds looking underneath the car will reveal it all.

You do need to jack up the car.

On the V*...
If I recall correctly the filter is on the driver side front of the engine. It is a little tricky to get at since the serpentine belt is just in front of the filter and at the viewing angle you will be, it almost looks like the belt would touch the filter, but it doesn't.

The filter comes out with the usual filter wrenches. I think the type that is a cap over the filter may be a problem since the belt is kind of in the way, but the giant pliers, the chain, the steel band etc types should work fine. It is a small filter so your wrench needs to fit those.

The drain bolt is at the bottom of the pan and fairly obvious.

Hardest part is installing the new filter. Because of the angle you think it should be in it would interfere with the belt, but the correct angle(straight in) doesn't interfere. Kind of an optical illusion, not sure why, but my eyes were fooled.

This is a simple job that presents no problems other than the belt maybe.

Good Luck,

Jim Henderson

On my 2000 V6 I just reach under the front and drain into my pan and then reach under the drivers side just behind the tire and change the filter. No need for lifts or jacks.

I use Mobile 1 and Motorcraft in everything. But Wix is a VERY good filter and may very well be who manufactures Motorcraft. Wix makes the good NAPA and Carquest filters.
