Oil filter

I've seen test results that show that Fram's aren' too good. I bought some K&N filters on clearance from some vendor on this site and they are much thicker and heavier with a nut welded to the bottom so it's easier to remove.

Yup, I would never touch a Fram. Anything else should be ok. I just put on a Napa gold. pn 7302 I think. $8.99

I would stick with Motorcraft.... to be honest, I think Fram and Motorcraft are the same sh!t.

A few oil changes ago, I was at the auto part store picking up oil and filters for the diesel truck. I grabbed the Motorcraft and the Fram one out of the box just to compare and they were identical. Since the truck uses one of those cartridge type oil filters, I could see all of the part numbers/the stamp were the same.

I used Fram in my old Mark8 for about 2 years and never had problems.

Purolator makes most Motorcraft filters.

NKG makes Motorcraft spark plugs.

I have been using Napa Gold for they are easy for me to get and just a few bucks more than Fram.

Google Fram and see what you find.

My buddy had a fram fall apart and smoke his engine, seen it with my own eyes, the casing separated from the base. was in a little rice burning honda so i had to laugh , but they also told him sorry but they obviously werent paying a dime for it..... ive always used wix.

Wix makes the filters for Napa, same part numbers except that Wix has one more number to the front of it. 2 = air filter, 5 = oil filter, something about like that. I use the Motorcraft filter right now, but will changing over to K&N next oil change.

I've decided that it doesn't matter for me as long as I change it when I change my oil. If I drove my car harder or ever visited a track I would probably care at that point.

i used to use fram but i had a case in an older car where every time i floored the car the oil pressure light would come on, mechanic said that he has seen a bunch of times where the fram was to blame, changed it to a K&N and never had the problem again!

Link? Not saying you are lying, but I've seen a LOT of "test" results on the internet in my time on the web, and more often than not, the testing criteria, testing analysis, testing conditions..all were very "interesting".
Not to mention the fact that I've seen "tests" on various oils and filters from 14 years ago circulating on the web...and many people still rely on those tests for "truth"..even though many of those filters or oils arent even made in the same factory's any more, much less have the same design/components.

Add to that Im a marketing major and KNOW the effects of marketing on a product (I still recall when everyone SWORE that Amoco Premium cleaned their engines...until the truth came out) vs what the product actually does..and Im a skeptic by nature.

not to mention that 94% off all statistics are made up right on the spot :shifty:
