I was shopping for oil filters for my 04 LS for my first oil change and couldn't find any at the local parts shop. So I got on the web and found some at a locl chain, but they are special order. The Fram costs $10 and the Purolator which is the brand I usually use is $17, Holy Smokes. Is this really what our filters cost? I am used to premium filters costing maybe $5 and the regular stuff for less than $2 on sale.

Man, Parts for the LS are starting to sound a lot like Japanese parts, outrageous.

Please tell me I am wrong and that the street price for our filters is more normal. And where do I find some, I am in the Pomona Valley area of So Cal.

Whew, just when I thought my synthetic oil was a bit pricey, the filter looks like it will really jack up the price of an oil change.

my 00 LS uses the FL400S motorcraft filter and i can get it at autozone for under $4.

yeah 17$ is a little ridiculous!!!!

$4, no kidding?

I'm going to have to stop there. I'm paying $16Cdn right now at Canadian Tire, and that's a deal considering how the dealer wants over $20 for each filter!

Yup, the prices for parts for the LS sure has surprised me too on many occasions.

also, have you checked the back of the owners manual...? not sure about the newer ls's, but i doubt the filter they use is THAT much more expensive than my 2000 LS...
it should say which motorcraft oil filter it uses, and just call a couple auto stores to find out pricing...

List price for the LS8 filter is $10.47. You should be able to get it for about $8.50 if you know your dealer well. The filters I picked up said "Made in the UK".

The LS6 is a different story. The 400s filter has been used forever and is cheap.

Parts are pretty expensive for the LS if you are used to popular domestic cars and are a lot closer to what I was paying for my Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR4 than my Mustang and Ranger.

Jim,
If you had the 3.0 you could get your filters at Walmart at typical Wally prices. Never saw one there for the 3.9 though. regards, Lincolnlov

at my local AutoZone:

FRAM - PH5618 = $7.99
STP - PH2008 = $9.99
WIX - 51228 = $8.49
Mobil1 - can't remember number $13.99
Motorcraft FL-2008 (I believe now it's a FL-2021) = $8.79 from FordPartsNetwork.com

Just doing a google search I came up with this webpage... https://www.rockauto.com/dbphp/mfr,FRAM,Engine,5340,Oil+Filter and they appear to have several choices relatively cheap.

The Wix is interesting at only $5.51 since it is regarded as a very good filter and it has the anti drainback valve that is not common but specificed by Ford for many of it's engines. From the specs it is a tiny filter.

Haven't used this company but I may just order 3 or 4 since that would hold me for a year ot so and I can stop driving around looking for them.

Shipping might be the gotcha since 1 is $5, but I see 4 is $6. Hmm mighty tempting to just get it over with.

I have ordered from Rock Auto and had no problems. When I bought my cabin air filter recently, they emailed me a coupon code for 5% off. Not much, but better than nothing. Knock yourself out.

Expires June 7. Anyone can use it (the email said to give it out to friends, etc.).

Just paste that code into the blank that says "how did you hear about us"

Dont you get it for free at the dealer?
I've been taking mine to FLM dealer since 02 every 5000 miles for free.
and on top of that they either pick me up/drop me off or let me take their loaner car for the day. I thought all lincoln had that free service for 3 years.
sad to say, my 3 years are coming to an end. I guess now I have to do it on my own.
