I've got a pretty good oil leak going, definitely more than a few drips. Over the course of a week or so I'll have a small puddle from its resting spot after daily driving. But here's the twist, it's definitely not the common-failure oil filter adapter gasket because this leak is coming from somewhere in the rear half of the engine (closest to the driver).

Has anyone ever heard of this one before? No pics right now, too cold. :)

That is the location of the sensor for the level. I was leaking a lot of oil from the oil filter adapter gasket, it coated the entire K member, oil pan, transmission, transmission mount, cats, etc, the pattern under the car when parked was a 3 foot by 2 foot slick.

That sounds like a good lead, wherever this leak is coming from it also coats everything on the rear half by the transmission down there with oil, making it really hard to tell where the leak originates.

Oh yeah, that's the incredibly-expensive-for-no-reason sensor. Well, mine still works, but if it's leaking could I just wrap the threads in teflon tape or something?

Well I'm pretty SOL if it's got something to do with the oil pan/oil pan gasket.

The Mark VIII oil pans are notorious for rusting and leaking, especially from the area around the "pod" in the rear.

it is clearly visible from underneath on the rear half of the side of the pan on the drivers side.

I didn't mention the Mark VIII oil pan bump tumor because it is on the passenger side, but it is tough to tell where an oil leak comes from because of all the surfaces it can travel across and with air flow be spread all over.

Oil sending unit is in front of the oil filter and screws into the oil filter adapter. Oil level sensor is in the rear of the driver's side of the oil pan.
