I've been smelling oil mostly when I run my heater for long periods of time. Just last night when I parked in the garage the smell was pretty strong. I looked under the hood and didn't see anything nor is there anything under my car. What should I look for? I'm thinking about taking it to the dealer Mon.

I had an oil leak that dripped onto a heater hose. I had a smell every now and then, and then they found it when they replaced the valve cover gaskets. I forget exactly where my leak was though.

I just called the dealer and he said more than likely its the valve covers. I've had good service from them so I'll take it in. He also mentioned that the coils would need to be replaced without me even asking.

By the way, you worried about USC?

Ok, got the car back today. The dealer only replaced the left valve cover gasket and said all the coils were good. Do I need to worry? Seems like they should've just changed them both.

I wouldn't, they don't go at the same times, nor do they work together like some electrical components do. Odd they would only do one, they usually want that extra buck once they got you there.

There have been people on here with only 1 replaced, and their cars are still running fine.

Yeah if it weren't still under warranty I'm sure both would've been changed.

Was there oil in the plug wells? what about the other side? I'm replacing both sides for the valve cover seals this week. I think it's the passengers side that is leaking and making the oil smell, but I'm doing both along with the plugs because I'm in there already.

I happen to walk in when they had it apart and I didn't see any oil in the plug wells at all. The other side was bone dry, so....
