Ive Had My Car For A Year Now And I Do The Oil Changes Just Wondering If Anyone Had Thoughts On (ams Oil 0w-30) It Seems To Be A Little Nicer On The Ride. Just Hope That Its Not Causeing Any Damage Let Me Know Your Thoughts

amsoil is some good stuff.... Thats a straight 30, thats about what the car recommends but I'd use the thicker stuff if I were you. Just dont beat the car when it's cold

Our cars call for 5W20 oil in most cases, especially the newer cars. It must also meet some Ford spec so not all 5W20 meet spec. On other web site discussions the Ford spec 5W20 is pretty good stuff and is necessary to meet mileage and durability goals.

I personally use Mobil 1 5W30 for personal reasons and ignore the 20 weight issue, since I assume, right or wrong, that the Mobil 1 syn meets or beats the specs and flow better than the semisyn Ford spec anyway.

I would not go with a heavier oil unless your engine was badly worn. Heavy oils do not flow as well when cold or hot. These new engines are pretty tight toleranace and the heavy oil may do more harm than good.

Amsoil is supposed to be good stuff. I don't know personally. One warning is that some Amsoil does not have API certification so if your engine did fail due to oil, which is extremly unlikely, they could use that technicality against you. Ditto me using Mobil 1 5W30.

I personally don't like 0Wanything since in my opinion they are just too thin and there is no reason for them unless you live in Frostbite Falls where it is sub zero for a lot of the year.

Just my opinion,

Jim Henderson

Amsoil is pricey, but it's not supposed to be changed like other oils. Instead of changing the oil every 5,000 miles, you're supposed to do periodic testing of the oil. They have test kits for this; you send a sample of the oil back to Amsoil, and they do an analysis and tell you if it needs to be changed. IIRC, when I was running Amsoil, you could go up to 25,000 miles on the oil, with a filter change at 12,500mi, but it's been a few years since then.

Mobil1, even the 5W20, is a heck of a lot easier to find, so that's what I run. FWIW, Mobil1 claims that it meets the Ford specifications right on the bottle.

I did notice while at the auto parts store there was some mobile 1 (assuming "newer") with 0w20 weight and it said "ideal for ford 5w20 applications". What do you suppose that means????
