Oilpan

Ok.. joking aside. What do you mean by bulge? Do you mean that added on extension? Its for additional and needed oil capacity.

I'm replacing my oilpan gasket and tried to figure it out, did notice the holes leading in and out. Why not make it one piece then?

The Mark VIII platform was originally designed for different engine. Its a variant based on an older 1988 or 89. I heard that the VIII was not even considered for the new module 4.6L at one point and that is was shoed in at last minute. Either way the oil pan needed more capacity and adding an extension was the only thing that worked since making the pan deeper would interfere with the k-member.

i have never heard that before.
what engine were they going to use?

i know the mn-12 platform was designed at a time when only the V6 engine was going to be offered, the NA and supercharged 3.8s.
and that they added the V8 (5.0) in 1991 to keep up with demand for performance and switched to the 4.6 in 1994.

but, i have never heard that the mn10 was gonna get a v6.
they had already moved to the V8s 2 years before the mark was released.

I doubt that they originally would be offering the Mark VIII with a V6. It was really the flagship, and Lincoln put a lot of firsts into their cars, then Ford and Mercury would adopt them. Like the EcoBoost in a couple of Lincoln concepts, and mainly found in production first year in MKS and MKT. Of course the same year early Continentals carried over the V6 from the Taurus.

The V8 wouldn't fit under the hood of the 89/90 cars.

I would love to quote a source, but I am not the only one who has heard of this or mentioned it. Keep in mind that development started in 1986 for the Mark VIII.

While I haven't heard a source, it also wouldn't surprise me as the FN10 is so close to the MN12 platform, which was originally designed for the V6. It also wouldn't surprise me if they had originally planned for the 3.8L supercharged engine.

I've heard the Mk VIII was originally supposed to be a FWD

I've heard originally it was going to have a built in engine hoist that would lift the engine right out of the front for easy repairs at the push of a button.

Where the hell you hear that from. Not true! Was gonna have TWO buttons, for safety.
