Was a little off on what my mechanic was telling me over the phone last night. This morning though he found the noise (it started acting up as soon as he started it and he was able to narrow it down).

It's a part he called a "dash air door". According to the diagrams he pulled up on the computer, there are several of them and they have these plastic gears, and one of mine apparently chipped a tooth or something.

Now gotta take it to the dealership to hopefully get fixed under warranty. But at least I finally found out what makes that effing tick.

You said it was related to throttle. That wouldn't apply to any of the air doors.

That's a good point Joe. He claims without a doubt that with a stethascope he heard this ticking coming from one of these air doors loud as day.

But the ticking does go faster as I go, so I don't know. It could very well be something else, but the noise he hears from it is just how I described it to him. I will update again after I take it to the dealer. (which is on Monday)

Pagluy: I see you are in Cleveland. Are you taking it to Nick Mayer Lincoln by any chance? I've had good results with their service department.

I am actually taking it to Marshall Ford today (first time after the last 2 years with Mullinax).

The noise acted up when I got there and they heard it, fingers crossed...

Good God, so again nobody can find the issue and I'm back at square 1. Just an update. /slits wrists

Sorry to hear that. Since you don't have any non-crazy suggestions, I'll throw a crazy one out. How about pulling the starter and checking to make sure that the starter pinion is retracting all the way.
Ignore this crazy suggestion if the frequency of the tapping is too low for this to be it.

Where is the original post? I hear a clicking from my dash near the steering column after turning the car off.

That is normal. It's not what this post was about.
