The drive line in my Montero Sport locked up on me. The rear will not move. We had to drag it up the roll back and oil the roll back bed to slide it off.
Long story short, my mechanic takes the drain plug out of the transfer case and 2 drops of oil come out! I have taken this car to the same lube place ever since i bought it, six years ago, but they apparently never checked the transfer case. I put a lot of miles on the car, so I take it in for an oil change every 6 to 8 weeks.
This lube place has a good rep, and has done my cars for years. I am going to talk to them Monday, to see what they will do. I have found another transfer case and it should be here Monday.
Sorry for the vent, but I just had to get it out of my system.

Do your own work on your cars and you don't have to worry about this kind of BS, and you don't have to go blaming other people and begging them for money....

Rotten luck for sure.......We have a certain expectation when we have our vehicles serviced that they will do what they're paid for. KK nailed it though.....Keep us posted what they do, if anything, to compensate you.....

Most of the time I do my own work. I used the term "my mechanic" very loosely, as he is my best friend and we have been working on cars together since the mid 70's. Yeah, I know I should change my own oil, but to save time I have rolled the dice and taken my chances.
Looks like I am going back to changing it myself.

Well, that sucks.

We've got the previous shape Montero (a 96) It's still going strong, but, holy hell! The spark plugs were a b*tch to change! (I did them last week) Are they still a pain on your 2000, Duck?

Blue, yes the plugs are a pain in the butt. I have about another 14,000 before it is time to change them again. Got 186,000 on it and it has been a great vehicle.

the only way they would be liable is if they have a check list witch includes
the diff and they said that all fluids are ok and you have said proof

^ True that.

A dealer on the other hand may be if you brought it in for its XXX,XXX mile tune-up or something like that. But a lube place is not responsible in anyway, especially if you are brining it in for just an oil change.

Sucks man. I have to take mine in for an oil change, both engine and trans. I just dont feel like doing it!

This is exactly what they have, with their multi-point inspection.
I talked to them today, and nicely explained what happened. The manager was very nice and said he would call the owner and call me back. He called me back in about 20 min. and said they would take care of it. He called the salvage where I am getting the transfer case and had them charge it to the lube place. He told me to bring him the wrecker and labor bills, too.

WOW! If they are going along that nicely, keep them around. A good consistent customer will get less BS when a problem comes along most of the time.

Not going to lie I am 100% shocked by that outcome...

Combine that with my percentage of being shocked and together thats a whopping 200%!

I lived in a apartment and had no choice but to go to a outside source for oil changes. Strict rules in the lease and I wasnt about to take chances jeopardizing a roof over my kids heads. One time the dip sh*ts didnt put the filer on tight enough. Go outside the next morning to find about 6 quarts of oil on the ground under my car running into the drain next to it. Management gave me a fine and a written warning on terms of violating my lease. Took the car back and all they did was give me a 10% discount card. If you get all four holes punched they give you the discount. They changed the filter and topped off the oil and that was it.

That being said, its a huge shock they are going the distance they are in his case.

not completely shocked...but am shocked about how fast it was takin care of. my friend in 2005 bought a 04 stratus r/t. it had alot of miles, so he got a transmission flush at a jiffy lube. well they didnt tighten the tranny line and it caught the car on fire and was a total loss. they ended up locating a new stratus r/t with lower miles and in better condition and sent the dealer a check and purchased it outrite for my friend. but he was carless for about 45 days

Wow, now I guess being that there was a fire and all that might take it to a different level.

But, who knows these days?

yeah they had an arson investigator look at the car and find the cause and beings he was on his way home it was definatly their fault i think they didnt want to go to court and have there name out there like that

Duck it looks like you picked a good place to do business with as they are stepping up to the plate to handle your problem that they were responsible for creating.

Yeah, it is good to see that there are places that stand behind their work, even if their employees screw up.
By the way, this is not a big chain but a local business that does a lot of work. They are close to the university and get a lot of business from the college kids.
