So I'm watching tv tonight and a commercial for a new Saab pops up. I thougt they went under with the gov't buy outs

No it was just sold off. IIRC Spyker bought them.

Yup, it was Spyker that bought them. Koenigsegg was in negotiations, but those fell through; just as GM was about to close the doors in Trollhattan, Spyker swooped in and bought them for a song ($74 Million, according to news reports).

Edit: That was $74 Million in cash, plus a $566 Million loan from the European Investment Bank, and GM retains $326 Million in preferred stock.
