Ok, so the Advance Trac amazed me today.

You all know the snowstorm that hit the NE today. I was driving the LS in it this morning, right during the snow/sleet/ice storm. Mind you, we have 3/32 tread left on the rear tires as is.

Had to shut the advance trac off a couple of times to play slip and slide to build enough steam to get up a couple of hills on the highway (we were in stop and go traffic on the interstate because people don't know how to drive). Anyway,

I drop Katie off at work (I was being nice) and on the way home, with the advance trac on, I intentionally put it sideways in a bend on a small backroad a couple miles from home. Before I myself could start correcting, the advance trac took over and almost instantaneously straightened the car out. Simply amazing how efficiently it worked with the differential braking.

That said....we're buying snow tires.

Who the hell is Katie? :N,
advance trak is awesome. saved my ass this winter already.

congrats on the wifey.......I linve in FL and we get FLORIDA ICE.....oil and thin little bit of rain........= florida ice and I have an 02 with traction control only... and I am proud of how it straightens the car out also...

I drove in the same. With Blizzak LM-22's it is quite manageable. I got stuck last year without them on during a Thanksgiving snowstorm - never again.

Well worth the $, snow tires that is.

It's saved my bacon a few times, even with good snow tires on the car.

I know that this car would have been smashed up long ago if not for that function.

Advancetrac is the next best thing since AWD.......even then, I see more 4x4's in the ditch during a snowstorm than any other car. I have never wrecked a car since I started driving (7.5 years ago) and I drove Mustang's in the winter time here in Iowa. To be honest, driving a car like that in the winter has prepared me for anything..........it is nice to start out driving a car with 0 traction just so you can understand how to drive in the snow (which is to just slow down and leave room in front of you). But again, the advancetrac is great for slippery conditions (not that I drive like a maniac who depends on the system.......but it is nice to know it is there in case something got out of control).

It's amazing how well it works. My son and his wife were in mine when it started to rain for the first time in many weeks here in Phoenix. He took an off ramp and all the oil had come to the surface...and he lost control. He even remembers saying "this is going to hurt". The Advancetrac took over and the next thing he knew he was perfectly straight again. Great system. My Aviator has a similar system and the new Explorer even adds roll over protection code to the software.

Unique story about the Advance-Trac - just happened 2 days ago. It has been raining for days here in Orlando and the roads were slick. I pulled up next to an '05 Corvette at a light, saw a young person driving it. I took off a little bit when the light went green he did, too. So I'm thinking ok lets go. (we were neck and neck this whole time) I floor it, then he floors - then slows down, so I slow down, too. He takes off again, so I take off again, then he slows down. I'm think wth is he f'n with me? 2 seconds later it hits me - his wheels were spinning as he was changing gears, I could've walked off and left him, because our wheels don't spin with Advance-Trac. I'd like a rematch next time the road is wet.

We were on Osceola Pkwy just off of I-4 and never went over 40 mph - the limit there is 45 mph - with very light traffic and it had just stopped raining so visibility was good.

Our wheels won't spin with the advance trac, but you're still going to slow down if you hammer it in the rain; The advance trac shuts the throttle down on it so essentially you're looking at the same effect.

Our hammer is not as powerful as the vette's. My slow down is less than a driver who is dropping the clutch on a semi-slick road.

Yup; it doesn't matter how much torque or power you have if you can't get it to the ground. Your LS won because AdvanceTrac was limiting output to what could be transmitted to the ground, while the guy in the Vette was simply wasting his torque/power advantages. In other words, the LS was using its output more efficiently.

If he'd been a competent driver, he probably would've beaten you, though.
