Opinions and info on SKS

If it's a kalashnikov it's of the better brand. Norenco (China) & Maadi (Egypt) made them too. Maadi sucks, Norenco's better, & Kalashnikov=best, of that era. There's a roomful of mixed opinions on them. All of the AR guys hate SK's & AK's. But on a positive note, reliability is no issue with the AK/SK design. They're not as accurate as the AR but at half the price, not too shabby. Ammo will get ya though. I used to get 7.62 X39 rounds at the gun shows 500 for $50. Now it's 200 for $50.

$300-500 i got mine for $130, a yugo with bayonet and grenade launcher sites, also check the condition of the gas valve if it is corroded enough all the gas will leak out and it wont cycle

I bought my dad an AK a few years ago, but I went ahead and bought it chambered in .223 so ammo is cheap and easy to find. I was actually quite impressed at the accuracy of the AK. Though I have found aftermarket mags don't like to fit, it is the chinese model though. It was more a novelty purchase for $199.

When you could buy an SKS and 1,000 rounds of 7.62x39 for $200, it was a worthwhile deal, but these days, not so much, IMHO. The Russians are the only ones I'd consider--there's a noticeable difference in quality between Warsaw Pact and Chicom firearms in general (IMHO).

Although I've never particularly cared for the SKS or AK, I once traded a S&W 659 for an SKS and some cash while "enhancing my collection." I owned it for all of five minutes before I traded it off for something else. I couldn't tell you who made it--I didn't care, because the price was right and I ended up with something I actually liked...
