Ok so what all OS's do you guys out there use?

Right now Im on Vista 32 with SP1. I got the SP1 last night cause the errors I was getting told me I needed the SP1 and well go figure I get the same error right after installation finished ( blue screen with what ever code ). Previously to this was XP and it was fine but I had a older PC at the time and IM thinking if I get rid of this resource killer Vista my PC will lighten up.

I might just go back to XP but I wanna see what you guys are running. I gave that Ubuntu ( boot disc ) or what ever a shot and it was like windows 98. It sucked!

I got a the 32 bit OS, 2.00GHZ dual Intel Pentium and 2.00 GB (RAM). If I go back to XP it should run nice. I do plan on upgrading the PC in general.

Vista took some time to grow on me and since I do lots of networking I got hung up here and there with its tight ass security features but I did start figuring it out sooner or later, its just the damn resources!

Vista won't run that well with 2.0GB RAM. It's a very power hungry OS. If you want, and if you can, upgrade your memory and give it another try. I just threw an extra GB of memory today into my laptop, it's a great upgrade for cheap. Cost me 60 bucks shipped, a lot of desktop memory is cheaper.

Vista here and loving it....

My laptop has 3gb of ram I believe and it is the min I would want to run vista on...

I know, its bare minimum. Hell its bare minimum for most PC games today but ehh what can you do. I needed a PC and was in a rut since the one before it died so abruptly. I had no options for one with XP and figured I would just downgrade either way. Im gunna upgrade like I said but I still want even those resources open.

This PC was pretty fast the first few days of owning it but it went down hill fast. My big problem is that my ISP tells me they see lots of problems with these cheap compacts and Vista causing connection and DL problems like I have been having and this guy knew his stuff. It wasnt one of those camel milk drinkers in India they outsource to. I have had problems with my ISP since day one before this PC but not this bad.

Leopard - quad core 2.6GHz xeon... tower

Leopard - dual core 2.0 - power book

Lusting after the 8 cores next...

sometimes when you get the sp1 it will down load new drivers that will cause the screen of death. I run vista 64 and i don't have anyissues, frame rates are amazing. programs all work like they should. I don't think vista is crap overall, just depends if all the hardware can work together.

I just went down to a stripped down XP Pro. Man, everything is so much better!

I might try XP black but I like how this ones stripped of all the extra BS. No more pulling my hair out while trying to view streamed news footage!

UBUNTU!!! dont know much about it, its free, fast and easy. my dad is a computer programmer and he wanted me to try it so when i needed a newer puter he put it on and said try this. i got a 20 min run through. and been runnin it for almost a year........i think? lol

Haha, been running it for a year and dont know much about it? Thats great!

This decision to run a stripped XP pro wasnt the greatest, it runs so smooth but I have been manually adding so much crap that usually comes with the PC and Windows but I was able to do some cool skinning and gadget tweaks.....

no i dont know specifics about the sys etc, i can operate it just fine, its basically a simple copy of windows, but it actually works!

I put it up on disc a few months ago. It works, but its so primitive.

Its like a tween type of OS, or like a student OS.

triple boot xp pro, vista 64 bit, and some ubuntu, get the best of all worlds.

Vista isn't as bad as everyone likes to think, If you have a pc where the hardware will work properly, its really nice.

My HP laptop came with 1gb of ram on home premium 32 bit

I pumped it full of 4gb ram, 64 bit ultimate, runs awesome, the problems people have with vista is when they dont have enough horsepower, the cpu bottlenecks most people, and video if its a notebook.

I have a ubuntu cd but haven't done anything with it yet.

I've never set up multiple os's on 1 hard drive but I'm sure it could be done, just to play around.

My new work laptop (Dell Precision M4400, 3Ghz Extreme, 4GB RAM, 512MB nVidia video card) came with Vista Ultimate installed back in September. After two weeks, Vista spit the bit, and I had to reinstall. In late November, it made me run the Startup Repair Wizard again, so I grabbed an XPSP3 disc and fixed that problem. The laptop certainly runs faster on XP.

On the other hand, one of the guys at work got a Precision M6400 laptop with the "XP Downgrade Option" (it came with a Vista license, but XP installed). We thought it was a lemon; Dell replaced it once within a week, then within days after that, they replaced all of its major parts (including the motherboard and LCD panel), and it still had the same problems. We finally installed Vista 32 on it, and it has had no problems since...
