after searching 'outside door handle', the closest thread that came up was this
nothing useful there
----
'96 base model
yesterday I set out to replace or repair my LH outside handle. The moving part (the grab handle) was in place and functional but flimsy- one of the hinge pins had fallen out and dropped down the bottom of the door. After I removed (and damaged) the assembly I put the pivot pin back in place with a new push nut.... done
-----
the Problem:
in standard 'shoot first aim later' fashion I started by removing the 2 nuts from inside the door and tried to remove the handle assembly that way.
The factory removal instructions are to
-separate the threaded rod (handle actuator) from the door latch (rotate the yellow retainer),
- remove the white plastic lever-actuator (from the rod or the cylinder?)
-then finally remove the nuts holding the assembly to the door...
-remove handle from outside.
here's the key cylinder arm/lever

it's the lever that fits onto and connects the key lock cylinder to the thin metal rod down to the latch
----
1) is this a dealer-only part? I've yet to find it on Rock_Auto
2) what is the best method/sequence to put it all back together?

1) salvage yard
2) opposite the way it comes apart

seems like it should be a standardized component, maybe it was used on other Fords/ Lincolns from that era?
---
with reassembly maybe putting it on the cylinder first, then the rod will work best

definitely have some. they come in ten packs. auveco part number 17118. 17119 for the passenger side.
Dan, message me if you don't wanna buy a whole box.
