I have neither the time, patience, or tools to complete this job myself. Has anyone ever paid a custom paint shop to do this for them, if so how much? I would by caliper covers, but they look cheesy.
Just spend a lil time covering the parts you don't need painted and clean up the calipers with a wire brush and you can get a good looking setup with very lil work. Mine has looked like this all summer. After winter they may need a touch up I suppose. But for the cost of only one can of spray paint, I think it looks nice.
I got the paint from the Tire Rack. (G2 Brake Caliper Paint) It went on real easy. I put 4 coats on after some simple prep work, which is basicaly cleaning with brake cleaner and a wire brush.
This applies with a brush. Believe me, its easy. You can do this in a weekend. All you do is jack up the car, pull the wheels, clean the calipers with a wire brush and brake cleaner.
Now, you apply paint. Like I said, it brushes on. Do a coat, let it sit and dry. Lay on another coat. - Keep going like this until you have about 4 coats.
Thats it. You can do this yourself. Buy the kit I linked to above, and a wire brush - thats all the tools you need.
I just had my mechanic spray it when I changed my rotors to cross drilled and slotted rotors.. i went solid black to match the car.. he only charged me like 10 or 20 dollars after i bought the paint.. he took everything off regardless so it was an extra step in letting the calipers dry.
I powdercoat myself. I've painted my calipers for now, But I'm going to powdercoat them. Need to get my oven fixed, but I can do any finish, wrinkle, metallic, etc. Going to do mine, a slick red and maybe some metallic silver brackets to match the car. I'm not sure yet
