Hi everyone, Happy pre fathers day!

Need some guidence please on painting the gas tank.
I sanded mine all down to almost all bare metal, primed it, sanded the primer with 600 primed it again, light sanded it with 1000, painted with Autozones Dupli color gloss black, 3 coats, wet sanded with 1000, 2 more coats, then 2 coats of clear (dupli color clear) wet sanded with 1500 and one more coat of clear. Let dry 1 week, wet sanded with 1500 rubbed out with Meguires mid cut, the Meguires polish, then turtle wax. Looked great!!!!! see my face in it as clear as a bell. first time gas got spilled on it........took the paint off to the primer with runs down the tank.

What did I do wrong? How can I re do it with out the same thing happening again?

Thanks
Jeff

When you repaint do the primer and wet sand with 600. Do not sand with 1000. Then add the color coats WITHOUT sanding between coats or before clearing. Do as much clear as you want on it WITHOUT sanding between coats. Wait as long as the paint manufacturer states until you wet sand the clear smooth. You also need to let the paint cure long enough before you start exposing it to chemicals. When painters use heated booths it cuts down on the curing time. Curing "naturally" is a several month process. Best of luck with your repaint

Had the same thing happen to me. Rattle can takes longer to cure so no chemicals like Don said for months, 6 to be safe, so be careful filling up.

Dont it suck to have all that work to do over again? Feel for ya bro.
