I'm in the process of recovering my ls and I have to repaint the new fender to match my cars color. Has anyone ever painted a part using one of those spray paints found at auto one? how were the results?
Honestly if you have a way to get hold of a compressor just buy a gun for $14 and get the paint. Spray cans have always gave me unsatisfactory results. I did have a fender, bumper and hood painted by cans but it was never good looking. I'm redoing it with a $13 gun from harbor freight and it's pretty decent. Remember clear coat is not sprayed on like base paint. Clear coat needs to be mixed with a catalyst before being sprayed so it will harden. Obviously that can't be done with a clear mixed in a can from a shop. I didn't have too much of an issue with the durability with the parts i mentioned before but it just wasn't good looking. This is the tread I put after I painted it with spray cans. You can't tell in the pictures but the paint was uneven( darker and lighter lines) and it didn't have any gloss to it even after sanding and buffing. Yes I did spray clear in a can also. http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/forum/showthread.php?51933-Fixed-her-all-up&highlight=fixed+her+up
And this is the result from the paint I just did yesterday. I was actually still trying to paint with the cans this time around and just couldn't get results. Maybe you could get better results but for me it was just much easier with a compressor. It's not perfect but still better than the paint on the car right now so.
