Parking brake broke - Gen II electronic parking brake

This is a new issue to me. The left side cable broke. This is on my 04.

Does anyone here have any idea why the parking brake cables are different part numbers for 03/04 and 05/06? Naturally, the 03/04 are no longer made.

I found two 03 LSes at a junkyard about 30 minutes from me. I pulled the cable off of one of them, and it worked just fine.

So the 03 and 04 electronic parking brake cable assemblies interchange. I wouldn't suspect the '05-'06 models to use a different route and/or assembly so I don't know why the PN's would be different. There's always the possibility that a minor change was made to the assembly in 05-06 for improvement resulting in different PN's. But if that were the case, you'd think you'd hear of far more failures in '03-'04. Weird. Thanks for the info though.
