I have a crack in the manifold, and I need to remove it to weld the crack. My 1996 mark has 172000 miles, so the bolts are probably in bad shape, but I can only see 2 of three of them on the underside so I can't know for sure. I am wanting to avoid removing the head to get to it. What is the proper procedure for going about removing this manifold? Any tricks to avoid the bolts breaking? Any input would be appriciated.

Doesnt look like a fun project huh... Maybe just taking the valve cover off will help though. I was wondering if doing that would help since I want to get headers.

Take everything from up top that you can, remobe the bottom bolts (The one that holds the piping on) remove the bolts from BOTH motor mounts, jack the one side of the engine up and reach. Not gonna be easy (these jobs are a PITA) but I think that would be the straight-foward approach.

Also - HEAT IS YOUR FRIEND. Take your time and make sure everything is glowing red hot when the heat is removed and you wait 15 seconds (Your surface of the metal can be heated red hot - but not under it ;))

Where do u jack the engine at to get one side up? Oil pan?

what does that mean?

I assume it means, use a torch to heat the things up, causing the aluminum to expand and making it easier to loosen. Still wondering where u jack the engine up to get one sider higher then another without hurting the engine.
Anyone?
