I was a member years ago when I first got my 2000 v6 LS but never got on the board. Recently I had my Trailer wiring converter go bad so I tried to wire it straight to the Lights for the hell of it.
Well the running lights on the trailer came on and got dimmer and dimmer till they just stopped working and later that night on the way to Taco bell I was pulled over because I had no tail lights on the passenger side. Now before you jump down my throat I looked and searched for a thread on this and found nothing! But on the good ol interwebs I did find something about a controller mounted on the inside of the trunk so I went to a salvage yard and found a bunch of them and I pulled one from each car and I was lucky enough to find the one I needed.
Unfortunately it did not fix the problem so I am either thinking the Multi function switch or Headlight switch. What are your thoughts? Also I tested every fuse I could find in the car and did manage to fix the left front turn signal problem I could not find haha. All of the fuses but the one for the left turn signal were ok! I even swapped some relays to no avail!

Also I need the clock spring but would that cause the cruise control to slowly stop working all together and the alarm key fob to stop activating the alarm? And yes it has a new battery!

the reason you dont wire the trailer light harness directly to the wires at the bulb is because with the LS, the lights get 12v constantly, then where the lights need to come on, the REM controls the light by giving or taking away the ground to the light. this is exactly the opposite of how most cars on the road work and what the trailer should have (ground, left turn positive, right turn positive, and brake positive)

then you could be talking about doubling or tripping the amount of current the REM needs to give supply depending on how many or what kind of trailer lights you have. I hope you didn't burn it up...

I Used to pull a 17 foot popup camper years ago and just recently got a new one so I was lighting 11 small clearance lights and two tail light on the popup. I knew it was a bad Idea but i did it anyhow! I swapped the REM with one from a salvage yard as stated in the post and it did not fix the problem. The numbers on the REM I replaced mine with were exactly the same!

You'll be wasting your time and money with the multifunction and headlight switches. Your problem's all back in the trunk. The first thing to do is to remove all the trailer wiring that you did and revert it completely back to factory. Then you can try another REM.

.... meanwhile, there is dedicated trailer wiring hook up in the trunk, it's been looked up before.

Trailer Tow

The trailer lighting is controlled by the trailer tow module (TTM) (if equipped). The architecture of the vehicle lighting system requires the TTM to be used for correct trailer lighting operation. The TTM controls the park, turn, and stoplamps of the trailer lighting when connected. Trailer lighting is powered through the trailer tow relay and trailer tow auxiliary junction box (TTAJB). The TTM, which is hardwired to the rear electronics module (REM), senses the vehicle's rear exterior park, turn, and stoplamps. For turn lamp operation, when either turn lamp is activated, the TTM will apply power to the appropriate trailer turn lamp(s). For stoplamps operation, the TTM senses the vehicle right rear stoplamps only, and when activated, the TTM will apply power to both trailer stoplamps. For tail lamp operation, the TTM senses the vehicle right rear lamp only, and when activated, the TTM will apply power to the trailer tail lamps.

Please have a look at this post of mine some time ago.

Wiring diagram and all, it shows it's prewired for towing.

The trailer wiring has been removed and I have tried four different REM boxes! They all were not helpful and a few caused the rear windows to not work! I will keep searching as I am not stupid! I just do stupid things haha. I will go through the diagram and see what I can do thanks or the help!

I have tried four different REM boxes!

all from a junk yard/ used parts?

well apparently, the chances of finding a good working REM anywhere is slim to none...

All of the 2003-07 CAN-bus vehicles I have dealt with have big issues with the REM...

...All the first year implications of CAN-bus had some issues, that never went away.

Well I find it hard to believe that every rem I tried produced the same problem! I'm sure it is something else and not the rem I will do some testing as soon as it dries up. But I am sure the rem is not the problem!

fuse(s), wiring (did you really fully it restore it to the way it is supposed to be?), relay(s), or REM.

adding 13 more lights to the same small wiring could have burned up the wire or a connector somewhere.

Yes the factory wiring was never altered as the control box I used was plug and play. I cut that harnes and was splicing to that so when I lost the lights I just plugged the factory plugs back in the way they were supposed to be. I am going to go back to the salvage yard and put a battery in the car I got the correct rem out of and hook. It back up to confirm it works correctly. But for now I'll just keep driving my 87 Ramcharger.
