my check engine light came on so i took it to autozone and let them plug in a code puller which came up that both banks are running lean, my friend is taking classes at a votech school and asked his teacher what could be the cause of it, the teacher told him that it might be that the injectors are dirty or possibly a clogged fuel filter, i tried two bottles of injector cleaner and one bottle of octane booster in a quarter tank and that did not solve it, the teacher told my friend to put a quart of ATF into a full tank, anyone ever heard of this? it sortof sounds like there might be a vacuum leak somewhere on the drivers side, but i cant be certain. any ideas as to what could cause it to run lean.

ATF in the fuel tank? Yeah tell your friend to drop out of that school.

is this a V6 or V8

A vacuum leak will cause those codes, and if you have a higher mileage V6 the pcv tubes at the back of the intake tend to deteriorate.

sans a vacuum leak I would be looking at a bad MAF sensor, if you take it to the dealer they can check the sensor to see if its reading correct.

Most common cause of p0171 and p0174 other than a vacuum leak.

Great advice....especially about the atf in the fuel tank. Geesh. I would also throw a fuel filter in it just for sh1ts and giggles.

ding ding ding, i think we have a winner

hey quik, can i have your brain when you die, i wanna make a frankenquik for my own purposes

oh boy been there and done that one. got the merit badge and sold it on ebay. If you have the v6 10 dllars to a doughnut the pcv is your problem domain.

i did the repair in my garage on a saturday. you can get the pcv tube, an elbow tube, for about 70 cents at AZ.

It is an arduous task but it could save you 6 to 7 hundered bux.

and eL eS took the time to document it - :thank GOD: - to make it much easier for us to follow the next time.

it was certainly a very good learning opportunity. I'd be happy to provide tech support on the repair if you wish to DIY.

Hey Lou I am thinking aout moving to Austin or Houston around dec/jan. My wife has never lived outside the great state of florida. If we end up in austin maybe you can show the LS and what the scca is all about.

I'll give a good shot at taking out an import with that monster you are building.

IIRC if this problem is not corrected in a timely manner you could end up replacing the cats a lot sooner than you want to.

Check out flatratetech.com. Man do I owe a lot to many LvC members like and ford techs at flatratetech

Once she sees Austin - there ain't no turning back......

We are still trying to figure out what SCCA class my LS is in.....

not to hijack the thread but I can see where they would have trouble deciding who to square you up against.

do you have any movies posted of you running the course?

I was in Class E of Street Prepared - but adding the SC knocks me out of that.... (although a Cobra is in the same class with a factory SC).

some pics - no movies - most the time the wife never comes - so I have no pit crew to run the camera.

I figured they might be trying to put you in with the cobras and such.

Man no pit crew... I think I need to consider austin a little more then if just to become Team Quik's AV guy :)
