so are there any safe and reasonable performance chips out there for my 2000 Lincoln LS. I recently put one in and when i got into it..the car bucked and then died on me. I pulled over and tried to start it and no luck, it wouldn't start. Finally, I got it to start and it ran like new again. Is there any performance chips that will actually make a difference and not hurt my car like this recently installed one did? Thanks.

there is no such thing as a performance chip for the newer PCM - like the LS. most of the ones on e-bay are nothing but a resistor that replaces the IAT sensor trying to fool the PCM into thinking it's -40degrees outside and therefore dumping more fuel into the engine - which after a while, the PCM thinks something has gone wrong with the sensor and either throws a code or trys to guess at the 'real' air temp using other sensors.

the way the new PCMs work is that you reload the computer software with adjusted setting to create better tunes.
