Lately while driving, my '94 M8 changes gears without me doing the shifting.
Now I realize this is what automatics do, but should they shift down while cruising 50-60 MPH along the highways, or just meandering along the streets at 30-40MPH.
In the past it would shift up to 4th in the first 30-40 MPH and unless I stepped on it it would stay in 4th at 14-1500 rpm at 50-55mph. Now It seems little gremlins are in there shifting down to increase rpms when I am really not in need of them. Sometimes it even feels like it is slipping instead of grabbing. I drive with rpms as low as possible for better gas milage. What would be the cause of this unnecsessary shifting, anyone know?

There's a couple threads about this, I belive it's the Transmission Lever Position Switch...(TLPS), or close, also known as Neutral Saftey Switch. Do a search to make sure I got the name right, and replacement procedures

It's also knows as the MLPS and is a $25 part and an easy install.

Yeah... what he said...
I was close.... I just had to change mine, most of the parts stores around here only know by neutral safty switch, I think it cost me $34.
