oh god, srt 4...GAG ME! you want a real car, thats not an 8 cyl? Get a Buick Grand National. Thats a car. Whoop that silly pos any day, and they are 20 years old.

Why do you guys cry RICE all day... that little f'n car is like $20k with 240 horse at the cam, (never mind the infamous front drive torque) and weights nothing... I love my Lincoln, but please, performance, your ass is getting handed to you by a Neon... bullet to head anyone?

hottweelz, you do realize this is a website that glorifies big v8's, huge luxobarge frames, and tire shredding performance, right? and then you wonder why people here don't appreciate a fifty dollar factory rice machine?

Do you remember when the Neon first hit the dealerships? No? Well, let me remind you. It was made by Plymouth and it came in about five colors: hot pink, lime green, lemon yellow, etc etc...

$16k for a GNX? with 267 at the rear? with 360 lbft?(then again, i could take a cheepshot and say that it was less than $5k for a hemi...but that WAS in the 60's/70's)

i wont knock on them too hard, but, get it in the corners with me...nothing beats a rwd

Lol I know where I am, I drive two to. BUT I've driven cars and owned cars that would blow you're mind. And I also KNOW that an SRT-4 is an extremely fast, loud, and lightweight...

I think Blackout has it right, the two cars (both American) are sitting there like Dad and Son... no one wants to admit it but eventually Dad get's tired and Son outperforms... no one has to trash the little guy... Neon SRT4 maybe Dodge's slogan should be "It's not Lime Green Anymore"

No one, not even Abraham Lincoln himself, should be comparing a V8 RWD Lincoln coupe that debuted more than a decade ago to a brand new economy sedan with some tuner parts. They are different class. Different generation. Different technology. Different purpose. Different everything. The only thing they do have in common is the number of tires and an internal combustion engine. Even then, one is missing four cylinders and another is missing a turbo.

Apples to Oranges folks...its all fruit salad in the end. Appreciate the SRT-4 for what it is...I do. I appreciate ANY vehicle that has spent 5 years on the drawing board, and was released to the public with huge applause.

Just remember...in 1992, they were saying OUR Mark VIII's looked like jelly-beans! Oh, and a DOHC? was Lincoln Nuts???(thats what the "enthusiasts" were saying)

No one will win this debate so unless you crave turmoil and attrition, lets let it go. Appreciate the fact that the "post-er" was trying to share his pride and joy, and his friend's new toy.

No crime in that.

OK, I don't own a Mark, of any year, but, I have ridden, driven and will ride and drive many more times in an srt-4. I HATE neons, my wife had one and I can say first hand, they suck. Forget about power, everything else about them is crap. HOWEVER, If you drive roads like I live around, (curvy country with decent straights),then here is no way, (in my best Jackie Gleason), NO WAY!, you're going to overall outrun an SRT-4 with a Lincoln. You may catch him here and there, but when it comes to handling turns and accelerating out of turns, the srt-4 is a bad MF'er if you can drive it right. I'd still buy a Mark first in a heartbeat though.

as I said before:

APPLES-Mark VIII
ORANGES- SRT-4

the two are in a class that is totally unique from one another. One is a 4 door, 4 cylinder turbo sport compact.

The other is a 2-door, 4000 lb V8 powered Luxury Sport Coupe.

tell me dear God, how ANYONE can compare the two?

you cant!!! So PLEASE stop trying to.

:Bang

a buddy of mine has a silver srt 4. and it is quick. We've never raced (i'm waiting till i have my exhaust done) but i bet it's damn close (in a straight line) The lbs/ horse is about the same. That neon is heavier than it looks. I believe it's close to 3800 lbs. But it is nothing like any other neon once u get on the road. My buddy is soon to drop a much bigger turbo in...and then...sadly......i will be no competetion. It is apples and oranges.....i just wish my apple was turbo or sc

I believe the SRT-4 is the cheapest car (new) for its speed. If you want fast for cheap, that's it.

The SRT-4 is by far the best bang for the buck on the market. And in no way shape or form am I saying that the Mark VIII is better then the SRT-4. Each has its own things it excels at and each has its things it does not excel at. But after driving both cars and from a rolling start I feel *not just saying this because I am a Mark VIII owner* but I felt that the Mark VIII put you in your seat alot better once you hit the gas from a roll. The SRT-4 didn't plant me in the seat as well when you hit it. But hey like some people said on here. Were comparing a car with top of the line technology today to a 10 year old luxury coupe. A lot has happened in 10 years

There had to be at least a half dozen of the SRT-4's running at the track at any given time last summer, none could break a trap speed over 99 mph, that included several modded ones. Altitude conditions sucked, but that should have hurt me more than them. I handed a few their asses with the Mustang and they looked distraught losing to an AOD Fox hatch. Not bad cars for the money, but it's still a neon, and a 4 door one at that.

hmm...i realy dont like it, namely because i cant fit in it.

but, someone NEEDS to respond to it. and i think that ford has an excelant platform on which to do it....the Cougar with the 6 cyl. Drop a big ol turbo on that, call it the Mercury CTX and pull 290+hp with 370+ft lb's on that little zoom zoom'er. definatly somthing that ford should entertain.

chevy just is realy lacking in low price proformance vehicles, they tried to make the MC ( a midrange priced vehicle) decent with a super...but that failed horribly. If they wanted to compete too, they should take the cobalt and get a big ol 2.4 4cyl and turbo that up....get it atleast to 230hp.

Isn't that called the Cobalt SS? ;)

Tell him not to put slicks on the car EVER... The guys down the road broke their engine mount bolts three times in a row even after putting in grade 12 bolts. Otherwise, they seem to be nice cars for what they are.
