I'm trying to replace my fuel filter, and I have the service manual cd.. I'm trying to locate the schrader valve to open it to relieve the pressure.. BUT I can't find it.. the picture on the cd is at best a bad sketch of the 3.0L engine. I know the valve is by the fuel rail (where ever that is) but I don't know what it looks like.. Can anyone pinpoint where it is? Or better yet. can anyone take a quick snapshot of where it is in the V8 and post it?
Thanks everyone for all your help.

I do not have a pic, but I can try to give you some advice to find it on your car. Find your fuel rail, and follow it towards the front of the motor, they are usually located towards the front of the fuel rail. I hope that helps.

Is it near the very front, to the left of the engine?? Like looks like a silver round bottle w/ a black screw cap on? To the very left of the air-intake tube? Cause that's what I see.. I took the cap off and it looks like a valve that would be on a tire. Just bigger.

That sounds about right....if it is bigger than a tire it should not be MUCH bigger....they are usually about the same size. Just MAKE SURE that it is not part of the air conditioning system.....if it is part of the fuel rail, then that is what you want. They are usually covered by a tire valve stem like black cap like you see.

I believe it's a little chrome valve about 3" across - in-line with the fuel line and fuel rail - near the driver side strut tower.

Lou, that's the pressure regulator. The schrader valve looks like a tire valve. On the V6, remove the apperance cover and it's right there, in front of the valve cover.

Actually, There is no pressure regulator on the LS V8. Being that it is a returnless system, there is a pressure sending transducer located at the inlet of the fuel line (bank one rail). The transducer monitors fuel pressure in accordance to engine vacuum and increases or attentuates voltage at the fuel pump. Being that it is a returnless system controll by voltage, the round canister pictured (circled in blue) is actually a fluxuation damper. It is there to prevent sudden spikes in fuel pressure.

The schrader on the V8 is located midpoint of the bank one rail. Aiming upward towards the hood. But, just a quick tip....... I take it if you cant find the schrader on your engine, you dont have a fuel pressure bleeder/gauge anyhow. So make it easy on yourself.... Wrap a rag around the fuel filter and disconnect the line, it wont spray and all the fuel will be soaked into the rag.

Silly me - that's mike.

I did replace my fuel filter - and did not release the pressure - and there was no noticable amount of fuel pressure in the lines once I disconnect them.

:I , you're making this way too complicated. Unless you're worried about some kind of skin irritation or something from the gas I wouldn't worry about it. There's not that much pressure in there to cause you any harm.

DOH, I knew that. At least I had the right system....

Sorry bought the fuss :). I changed my fuel filter the way Quik LS and Jibit said about a week ago. I am just trying to figure out where everything is on this V8. I let it sit for about 3 hours before I had a chance to get to changing it.. The rag method works like a charm. But as for that D@#N ghost valve.. The Service CD wasn't to accuarate on where it is.. so I'm just tryin to find it.

Once again, my LVC brotha's to the rescue.
