Sorry ran out of options on trying to get this to work...and when all else fails resort to lvc..

I just dled a movie Cinerella Man, its in .vcd format, I have the new windows media player 10, power dvd, i have a virtual Demon drive...

OK here it is...
I tried to open the file in windows media player went to file open then selected the folder, then there were 2 folders cd1, cd2, when i opened nothing there so i go to file Types,, select all, then try the same process file open cd1, and there are a bunch of cobra-cm1.r00 type of files... Anyone have any idea how to play a vcd file without burning it to a cd?

or possibly how to convert vcd-dvd

Sounds like a release from a local crew ;) .r00 files are numbered rar files in order and cut up, probably 14.3mb or 15mb even.

Select .r00 and hit extract, and when it asks again, hit all files. This will give you an vcd file. VCDGear.com can help you move your files, or DVD2AVI.

From there you probably will get an .ISO or an .CUE and .BIN file, the cue sheet loads the bin iso into a system for burning.

Nero can burn either of these, otherwise CDRWin will load a cue sheet.

If you do not wish to burn from that directly to a CD, you can use the VCDGear tool to load the cue sheet and make an MPEG out of the .bin.

If you need more help let me know...

P.S be careful where you get those movies, if it was the direct src you wouldn't be asking (which is okay im not making a rip) but I just want you to keep safe ;)

do you have aol IM by any chance? when i right click on the file there is no extract..

Not here I don't i'm a digital user against most peer talking programs.

Go to rarlabs.com and download WinRAR, it will allow the option to extract all, Windows does not support rar files by default, only zip and cab.

do you have aol IM by any chance.. how or where do i go to get the extract command?

i just dled the vcdgear and under extraction/conversion i dont see a r00 file type, could you please walk me through, thanks!!!

Download WinRAR, once installed, right click the .r00 file, or .rar file if it exists

Example:

cobra-cmr1.rar
OR
cobra-cmr1.r00

the .rar file might not be in some releases, and just the .r00 (the start) of the movie to un-rar it.. if the .rar file is there, do the info below.. if the .rar file isn't there, and the first file is .r00, do it to that file.

Right click this file and hit extract to folder then Yes to All... each file contains identical files but has a different piece of the pie, it's only over writing the .nfo files and other information about that movie.

Once you do that you will have a folder cobra-cmr1, or whatever its name is (you just extracted it to) go in there and find your .ISO or .BIN/.CUE file

No, I think i was a bit technical in the last response, I do not use any chat programs like AIM,ICQ,YAHOO,MSN etc.

I do use Yahoo at work as a necessity, so worst come to worst I could use that tomorrow when i'm there, but i'm confident you can get this tonight.

I'm here for a while, keep posting! haha

extract files, extract here, or extract to cobra?

Cobra is fine..

Those options just say where to put its files when its done... its often more organized to always do it to the directory it specifies, like Extract to /COBRA

It will default the directory name based on the file you're extracting. you're almost there. Now depending if you want to watch this movie on your computer, or burn this movie to a disc, let me know next post what your goal is, and we can go from there.

Ok, you want a regular .mpeg then that your windows media player, or winamp can play great.

What type of files were output, a .bin/.cue or an .iso ? That will lead us to our next step to your goal.

do i have to do this to both the cd1 folder and cd2 folder.. this may take a while its 1.5gbs lol

Yes, each cd is it's own half. Are these files 45mb each? or 14.3mb or 15mb? You may have a DVDR on your hands, which in that case would be 4.2gb, split about 2gb each.

I actually have about 500 movies that i've got on hard drives of genre of movies. I ran a unix box (freebsd4.4) with mythtv (mythtv.org) and made my own tivo.

Basically about 800gb of movies on demand

Go to http://vcdgear.com/download.html

Download the first one

VCDGear v3.56 build 050213 BETA (GUI) *Update EXE only*
Windows 9X/NT/2K/XP x86

or use this link: http://vcdgear.com/files/vcdgear356_050213beta.zip

Download the file, unrar it like you did the movies, go in the folder and run vcdgear.exe .. it will open an interface, in the bottom left you will see Load.

Click load, and find the .cue sheet in one of your movie folders, then hit start on the bottom left.

This will ask you to name the movie which will be created into an .mpeg. You should then be able to use windows media player or Winamp to view this movie provided the movie isn't corrupted in any way for a player to render and view it, and that you have the proper codecs to view/listen to it.

Let me know how it goes

o ki have the vcd gear thing i opened it.. the file is stille xtracting at 85 % at the top of the vcd gear i see.. . vcd gear, video-cd, logs, ... [X}, task, --> documentation options and about
i see the extraction converstion where is says rar... sorry not the best computer person

okay now i see load.. so i just click load and it'll ask to create a name? the file just finished let me try it out.. brb

Once the file is extracted, just go click and play the mpeg if you see that vcdgear is doing its job.

The rest of the vcd gear options are for more advanced style vcd use/extraction.'

Is there a spot you're hung up on now thats not working or you were confused with?

okay i went to load the file gave me to options a folder that said the cobra on it and a cobra icon? which one

it was under an open menu and had file types with *.rar at the bottom

When you click Load in VcdGear on the botom left, navigate and click the .cue file that is inside one of the CD folders, either CD1 or CD2 you should see something like cobra.bin and cobra.cue.

The .CUE file is the file you want to load when you are in VcdGear. The .BIN you do not need to be concerned with, thats the movie itself, and that is what VCDGear is making the movie from. You're just giving it the .cue sheet to start its job.

I see a cobra.cue file clicked it and a thing "batch processor" popped up clicked start.. "rar decompressor has not yet been selected"

Try this.

In Vcdgear in the upper left there is a drop down with a title

Extraction / Conversion

Drop this down and select: rar[archive] -> cue/bin -> mpeg

This is the 1st option in the list.

Then, once that is set, go down on the bottom left and click Load, it will ask for a .rar file.

When that screen opens asking for a file after you click load, find the directory that those rar files are in for CD1. Find the .rar file or .r00 if .rar isn't there, select it and hit open.

Once you click that, click start in Vcd Gear...

Tell me if this works okay for you.

There are some other methods, im just trying to see what your computer has and doesn't have. If you do this often you'll eventually have all the tools and can accomplish this task in under 5 minutes per movie.

I gottah hit the sac now but if you still have the issue we can clear it up tomorrow, hope this has helped some what

ok 1st rar[archive] -> cue/bin -> mpeg got that.. then i went to load
open menu pops up its under *.rar file types i see a folder and an icon, nothing in folder....
next changed file types to *.r00/r01 now i see a folder and 43 lil icons, nothing in folder, tried opening folder and clicking open then it worked i didnt get that batch processor then i clicked start and it said ... "source file could not be opened or accessed" am i missing something?

wait the batch prossecor was minimized.. still same original error message..
