I am a new owner of a 1988 continental signature 3.8l and I am in the uk, I have no owners manual and I need to find out what the keypad on the drivers door does and how to use it, also where to get a remote keyfob for this car, any other tips and online resources would be great, thanks in advance and a great car and website.:)

I don't think remote was avail on 88. my 91 manual does not mention it, and my 90 parts car don't have it. I think it was optional in 92.

for the factory code look inside the trunk, on one of the hinges for a label with a 5 digit code (usually right hinge). that is the permanent code for the keyless. if its not there, look at the controller itself (located in trunk, on backside of rear seat back, hidden behind the carpeting). the code will be there also.

a couple quick things it does...

pressing 7/8 and 9/0 at same time locks all doors.
after entering the keyless code, pressing 5/6 will open trunk, 3/4 will unlock other 3 doors.

there are other features that you really need manual handy to program... like a 2nd 5 digit code, how to turn on/off 'autolock' (where it locks door automatically when you move shifter thru the 'R' position) and maybe a couple other things (actually they are not hard to do, I just don't remember the sequence off hand).

The fobs were only available on Lincolns that are from 92 and newer, at least the factory ones anyways. There may be aftermarket alarms and stuff that have key fobs you can install on you're car. But thats about it.

I would imagine that if you got the key fob/keyless entry box out of a newer Continental 1992-1994, then you could add the key fob feature.

Wrong :D my old 91 had keyless entry and key fob :p

was that an original keyfob??? my 91 owners manual has absolutely NO reference to a remote keyless, just the keypad. my 91 is original (except for the obvious maintainance items). are you sure it wasn't aftermarket, or someone took a 92-up controller and installed it?

It has to be something that was added on later, or could have even been special order from the dealer back in 1991.
