OK Hotties....I pray that once I am done, I can say changing the plugs and wires is easy....cause it is not looking that way now!

Finally after going to get yet another socket adapter for the last bolt, nut, screw.. whatever the H E double toothpick you wanna call it, I've worked my way to yet another cover....grrrrrr....got that off on the left side, but the right cover has a few gadgets blocking it. The one piece looks like a push and slide release...but no pushing happening, do I unscrew it also?

I gave up last night, frustration and exhustion got the best of me after I needed the adapter for the end of the intake.

Any one got any advice...I'm giving myself about 10 mins to chill out then going back at it....

The culpret is the bolt lower center of the pic, (only see half of it) it has the metal piece under it that semi-twists to what looks to be a slide release for the black hose (stamped with 1/32"), which is what I need to remove to get at the plugs.

Any one got a second to enlighten me? and there is nothing coming up when I do seraches (spent two hours trying yesteday).

I would give ya a hand but cant make the 7 hour drive today :) wait till the meet and we can knock it out in about 15 minutes for ya.heres what a gen 2 looks like-just take the top nut off and move it to the side to get the cop cover off-or the wire cover on a gen 1

Remove that vacuum line and you should be able to put a socket on there to remove the nut, remove the nut 5" to the left also and that whole bracketry will be easy to move out of the way. To try to remove that bracket off the other will be a pain on the car, you shouldn't have to seperate the 2.
 
oh thanks hun....ummm but Im past the point of waiting ;)

oh and another Q

I got the anti seize and the boot protector, but it looks as thoughn there is a type of sealant on the firing end of the plug - should I put something there also..?

ohhhh thank you! but the vacume line isn't in the way, it is the bracket with the red and I think yellow wired plug in the way.....and you mean there is another bolt down there.....gezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

ok, I've got the left side done....Hi Hun, thanks for the "be careful", so I am right that bolt does have to come out and then it will release the silver bracket (holding the vl) so I can get that silly plastic cover off....ahhhh at least half done ;) ok....Im off, loaded with technical advice from the expert....anybody (RICH) gonna chime in with "have patience" lolol cause that comes in darn handy too....especially since the underbody just devoured the 10 mm socket....yes, it is the one that removes that little bolt that is keeping me from the plugs...I love my Mark ;) lolololol brb gonna check if my neighbors home..snag his socket....lololo thanks HOTTIE

DONE! Tightened everything checked everything turned over nicely, tools away, hands clean ;)

Geno, you were right, glad we speak the same language...
be careful = losen it gently then finger it! lolol

Once I had all the right tools, and knew a few little tricks, I was in business! Yup, I can say it was an easy job!!!

What brand plugs, what gap and what brand spark plug wires?

Evening Sir,

Duralast, .055 and Autolite 764's, didn't get fancy, just took the most mentioned on the plugs, the wires have a lifetime guarantee.

Did I do good, if not, let me know and I will re-do!

Just be rough....the only thing you need to remove is the intake tube.

Debi, you need to get motorcraft plug wires for TUX they cost some but worth it.

2 out of 3 ain't bad. :p

The 764s are great plugs to use. I follow the longtime advice of others and close the gap slightly to 0.048. If nothing else, this allows slightly better life before the gap widens too far due to normal wear. Just something to keep in mind. Not enough reason to pull and change though. Duralast spark plug wires? I won't say nothing bad about them. But I don't think they come in cool colors. ;)

BTW, no need to call me Sir, please. Makes me feel older than I am. :)
 
Don't worry about the gap, .055 is within factory spec. I have the gap opened to .058 with my GMS 4V connecter kit for maximum spark, the instructions say to open it to .060.

You'd be proud too, I stayed to the lean side of .055.

I went to Advanced Auto and they didn't have any in stock, so I had to buy from Auto Zone, they had dura's and another set for 160.00, I went with dura's!

still wondering where my socket went...he also got a nice chunk of my thumb too!

She puts up with me and I put up with her! It's called "Mutual Tolerance". ;)

BTW, I figure I could probably cut half a tenth of my ET if I could find all the tools I've lost in the engine bay!! :p

I'm missing an 18 MM Snap-on Flank drive plus wrench, and a 13MM semi deep flank drive socket. Hiding somewhere in the 94, and I can't find em for the life of me.


I wonder is Snappy will warranty a lost tool? :D
 
Oh buzz off. Autozone here is a pretty good parts store with some knowlegable people. Lay off it.
 
the store may be good....... but the parts are NOT. I used to deal only with autozone because of thier prices. In the last few years I have noticed a BIG decrease in the quality of remanufactured parts, which adds up to lost time replacing a part you just put in.


OUt at the shop, we WILL NOT call autozone for anything unless it's a last minute "GOT" to have item. If Napa can't get it........OEM will. There is a reason Rich feels the way he does. Ask him about his torque converter issue he had a while back, and I'm sure you'll understand.

I go there for oil, coolant, that kind of stuff. Their batteries are OK, some of the duralast parts are OK.
