I just bought a 60" positive cable from Auto Zone and it seems to be short. Is the 60" cable correct? if not what is the proper length., and what are the steps in replacing it. Many thanks from John

I also replaced the throttle control bushing today the one that was on was shot.

I imagine this is to the starter as the positive battery cable is probably about a foot long. Just measure the original line and get enough wire to cover it.

I can't just take the one off I have on the car because I need the ride to get me to and from the parts store. I called the dealer and they said it should be 56" long. They also said it is discontinued, but they knew a place I could get one for $60. I wont pay that much for a +cable I'll make one first. Anyways I attempted to take the old one off. What a pain in the neck. I'm just going to pay someone to do it. ARG!

I didn't say remove it, I said measure it. Use string if you need to. And remember, you can always make the line shorter...it's making it longer that is the trick. ;)

Hi John.
The 1990 positive cable that runs from the battery to the starter and from the starter relay to the start, is still available from Motorcraft as Rick "One_Way" just redid his with stock parts.

Ask a FORD dealership to look under 1990 and newer. Making your own is a matter of buying the correct size cable and attaching (crimping or vising) the ends and then installing.

Are you sure the positive cable is discontinued? I bought OE battery cables this summer from my local Ford dealer.

Yes, the positive cable is expensive, but it is an intricate assembly that will be very time consuming to build with a universal type cable. And you know what they say, time is money.
