I have my car at the dealer right now. They said there is a "coolant control valve" that is leaking. They want almost 500.00 (including 88.00 diagnostic) to fix it. I have seen the tech articles on replacing the dccv and I think I can do that myself???? But I'm not sure if it is the same thing they are talking about? I read in a post that there is only 1 control valve on the ls, so I guess that's it. The guy in the service dept. said that they had to remove and evacuate the "freon" just to get to it. I know there isn't any freon in it, i don't know if he was just using layman terms, or if he's full of :q:q:q:q. The tech article does'nt say anything about removing the ac unit or the "freon". They also said that I need a new climate control unit, and that it will have to be programmed. All together they want to charge me 1250.00 . I think that is absurd. He said the control unit is 600 and something for just the part? I'm frustrated and do not want to spend 12-1300 just to fix a leak and get my air to blow something other than hot!!!! I am new in town and do not have any connections with a reputable mechanic, so my options are limited. One last thing; the P.N. # the guy gave me is 6w4z19980-b. That is not what I have come up with for the dccv, can you tell me what the P.N. # is for the dccv? Thanks for any and all help!!!!!

Hvac - Controls - Dash control unit
Dash control unit, ls6, ls8, w/heated seats 2003 - 2006

from Team Ford. Max can probably do better.

"Freon" would be the generic term form the refrigerant. Your symptoms
get my air to blow something other than hot!!!!
sure sound like the DCCV, and it isn't too difficult, with the proper tool. If it is leaking you should be able to see coolant leaking around the valve. It sounds to me like they think it's something else as the A/C system doesn't need to be opened up.

It sure seems like they are taking the shotgun approach to whatever problems you have. They could be right, it could be that you need the DCCV, the DATC, and some air conditioning work. Or, they could be wrong. I would want the details of every fault that they believe they have found. Otherwise, I'd just replace the DCCV myself and see if that solves the problem(s) or not. If it doesn't, you can still get the other things done.

The last response in the above thread gives the DCCV part number and cost.

I did mine myself, and it only took 1 1/2 hours, including bleeding the cooling system...
